overturned.
March 22, 2021 at 5:32 pm #203757But presumably no punishment for Dieng for cheating!
March 22, 2021 at 6:21 pm #203758Glad common sense has been applied here but it was still a stupid thing to do in this day and age. Just don’t raise your hands period, it’s not bloody rocket science and Clarke is not a hot headed rookie, he should have known better and also should be setting a better example to younger players.
March 22, 2021 at 6:31 pm #203759Dieng should have at least a 3 match ban otherwise the Chet’s will continue to flourish!
March 22, 2021 at 6:33 pm #203760Players can be charged retrospectively for simulation, this would have been an ideal case.
March 22, 2021 at 7:02 pm #203762March 22, 2021 at 7:43 pm #203766Fair and very swift action, completely correct, and that twisting twat of Southends should serve the three match ban instead, not only did it cost Scunny 2 points, more importantly it cost me 11 Prediction League points. ha ha!

What cheating is involved in “being shoved to the ground”?

Didn’t cost us any points. It was still a foul and correctly awarded penalty.
Dieng acted like a baby and embarrassed himself but it didn’t cost us any points. I think we are quite lucky to get it turned over. It could definitely be considered violent conduct. I don’t know what the level of “violence” requires for a red is.
The only thing that cost us points was Clarke’s idiocy. If we hadn’t given them a penalty they wouldn’t have scored yet if we were still playing now.
March 22, 2021 at 11:49 pm #203772Darryn—when Clarke pushed the iwat in the chest, like three or four players usually do when most set pieces come accross, but the push was after the ball had passed the place in question, and had already gone over to the other wing, the ball was not even in the area!!!! 99% of the time would have ignored it, but it was obvious that the ref did not really see what happened, and if Clarke had struck the prick, the red card would not have been over ruled.
Actually the ref had a good game apart from that terrible decision, so did Clarke, but seeing that twats reaction, he had probably tried for a sending off or a penalty, but at the very least he should serve a ban, or get a place in the Premier League.
March 23, 2021 at 7:17 am #203774‘The cheating involved in being shoved to the ground’ is when you writhe around on the ground holding your face as though you have been punched!

The referee will give what he sees, not how a player reacts. If Clarke hadn’t shoved him for no reason, there would have been no decision to make.
March 24, 2021 at 6:35 am #203814Apologies for banging on about this but cheating is, and always has been, a real issue for me.
If Dieng wasn’t considered to be cheating it begs the question of why the powers that be decided to rescind the red card because there’s obviously no doubting the fact that Clarke, stupidly, pushed him?
Oh, and I don’t believe that he did it for no reason. Dieng either did or said something or both!March 24, 2021 at 8:40 am #203818Don’t think anyone can say it wasn’t a penalty as it was as blatant as you wil see, but dieng going down holding his face is a disgrace! This seems to be creeping into the game the slightest of touch’s to the face in a tackle players are going to around like Mike Tyson had given them an upper cut.
March 24, 2021 at 9:02 am #203819With no fans in the ground and no “crowd noise” you can hear the Hollywood death screams every time they are tackled!
Defenders are called out when mistakes are made but with the current laws of arms not in a unnatural position, no bumping into anyone, no last ditch tackles if you take the man as well as the ball, there was contact and the attacker deliberately ran into you or tripped over your foot – it’s a tough game for defenders.
No excuse for Clarke by the way, but he also deserves credit for the way he has played at centre back.
March 24, 2021 at 9:47 am #203823Can’t be done at the low-tech SVS, but at grounds where there is a big screen they want to show the histrionics on a loop for all to see.
That would make them think twice.

March 24, 2021 at 10:05 am #203827Dieng has now received a two game ban for “misleading the referee”…and a deserved one too! The Southend manager’s comments regarding the ban are just as embarrassing as Dieng’s theatrics.

March 24, 2021 at 10:06 am #203828Excellent news
March 24, 2021 at 10:59 am #203830So he was not pretending he had been hit in the face, he was just brushing the dust from his bandage!
Good luck with the appeal Southend.
March 24, 2021 at 11:16 am #203831I hope this starts a trend, plenty of Premiership players will be “resting” if it does. I reckon they’ll get it overturned sadly, it wasn’t simulation to win a penalty, just exaggeration.
March 24, 2021 at 11:27 am #203832Interesting that noone on here has described Clarke’s actions as “cheating”, even though what he did is against the laws of the game?
March 24, 2021 at 11:50 am #203833Clutching at straws there ferrite, most of us understand the difference between foul play and down right cheating. Over the moon with his ban, didn’t expect it as did many others but more than welcome.
March 24, 2021 at 12:29 pm #203839He was in team of the week for them too.
Karma is a bitch
March 24, 2021 at 12:41 pm #203841It’s just a shame that the penalty kick couldn’t be rescinded and the Iron given a 1-0 win and the extra two points.

March 24, 2021 at 1:58 pm #203846the club admitted they agreed it was a penalty, but said he pushed him in the chest not in the face.

Foul play is trying to win the ball and failing, foul play is being caught offside, foul play is not knowing how to take a throw-in.
Clarke wasn’t trying & failing to play the game, he just shoved a bloke over.
March 24, 2021 at 3:50 pm #203854Southend had defender Hart sent off last night but manager Molesley said ‘he didn’t deserve to be sent off and we will appeal it.‘
However Walsall manager Dutton said ‘the challenge was reckless and out of control’.
As Jimmy Greaves used to say ‘funny old game ain’t it’.March 24, 2021 at 6:06 pm #203862Interesting(?) to note that 2 of our stunning loan signings were unused subs in this game between 2 lowly L2 teams. Clearly two more managers that don’t rate them, were they non-managerial signings there as well?

March 24, 2021 at 7:16 pm #203867Trying to win the ball and failing is not foul play ferrite if we’re been pedantic, not all pushing is foul play ferrite but Clarke’s push was deemed to be.
March 26, 2021 at 9:54 am #203912Both Dieng and Hart’s appeals failed and they have received two and three match bans respectively.
In the case of Dieng manager Molesley is now saying that he’s not surprised because the standard of refereeing is shocking. What has the standard of refereeing got to do with a player being charged for simulation? -
