Pre match in here please
February 26, 2021 at 10:51 am #202797Cox says he wants to be positive, 2-0 win if he is.
February 26, 2021 at 1:25 pm #202804Keadby i assume your assuming Cheltenham miss their non penalty, penalty. Am going for them to score it and us to win 2-1!
February 26, 2021 at 4:13 pm #202818If our master tactician has a ‘coping’ plan it could be a long day.
If the tactic is being us in a 4 4 2 and going forward in a forceful way the day could be very rewarding.
February 26, 2021 at 11:05 pm #202838I feel that a draw will be the result tomorrow, we don’t do 0-0 draws, so I will go for a 2-2 draw. One of Cheltenhams goals will be the result of a penaty, as long as it really should be a pemalty tat will be ok, but another like the two previouse penalties would just about finish me off with football.
So 2-2 and a really enjoyable game, so just hope the manager does not build the team to try and stop Cheltenham from playing, it never works, so lets go for a wim., and probably end up drawing.
February 27, 2021 at 9:13 am #202841Cox says he wants to be positive, 2-0 win if he is.
What he says and what he does often don’t coincide. Because of Cheltenham’s league position he’ll, once again, overestimate the opposition’s ability and set up to nullify a perceived threat. We have attacking players with enough pace and ability to threaten any team in this league if they’re allowed to do what they do best.
February 27, 2021 at 9:53 am #202844Today’s game could well set the tone for the rest of the season.
We have a run of 5 games against teams with promotion aspirations and 3 of them are away.
We probably need 10 points or better from the 5 games if we are to spend the rest of the season looking upwards. To have much chance of that we probably have to win today. If we lose 3 or 4 of them we will be back looking over our shoulders.
It’s less a case of deciding to attack or defend. To beat good sides (which at this level all 5 teams are) then we need to do both things well.
Let’s have KVV and McGahey in from the start and have a go.
February 27, 2021 at 10:36 am #202849We need to release the Veen out of the Van and go for the jugular.
February 27, 2021 at 11:39 am #202851We need to release the Veen out of the Van and go for the jugular.
Interesting, do you mean he’s the only man in the van with a plan to defeat Cheltenham? Oh BTW 2-0 to the Iron, this sunny weather has got me all optomistic.
February 27, 2021 at 2:13 pm #202852Positive changes made.
Van Veen, Mcgahey and O’Malley’s inclusion fill me with confidence.February 27, 2021 at 2:19 pm #202853Lineup certainly says let’s go for it.
Decent bench too. Funny how McAttee seems to have disappeared off the radar.
February 27, 2021 at 3:44 pm #202854Outclassed this half.
So many sloppy balls and poor defending throughout.
Be amazed to see us take anything from this.February 27, 2021 at 3:53 pm #202855For goodness sake take Clark off ,every passgoes to Cheltenham
February 27, 2021 at 5:16 pm #202858Clarke has had several very poor games this year but that one tops them all for me – positional, passing, pace, all so far off it.
Rowe is by far the better footballer currently.February 27, 2021 at 5:18 pm #202859Would’ve been thoroughly undeserved but if we’d taken our chances we would’ve won that.
Didn’t think we were very good but we were beaten by a solid and well organised side.
February 27, 2021 at 5:24 pm #202860Could achieve a rather different sort of “five in a row” next month….
Just not good enough.
Lucky really that there are a few worse teams.February 27, 2021 at 5:26 pm #202861I thought Clarke was weak. Playing Roe makes more sense.
Best side I’ve seen since that FG team we saw a while back. Cheltenham look good enough for taking an auto promotion slot.
Ref was the best in a good while.
I was deeply suspicious that the ball for the first goal was crossed from behind the goal line. Howard’s instant reaction certainly seemed to suggest the same.
If Manny had not missed a sitter – we might have had a very different game. Their GK looked the real deal. Two terrific saves to stop us getting back into the match.
Sometimes though, you just have to say “we lost to a far better team.”
If we had scored, I reckon they would have simply turned up the gas and surely they would still have won.February 27, 2021 at 5:35 pm #202864Well no points again, and no really attacking play until the secomd half, so what happened to the usual Cox quote of we will plat attacking football. One good thing today was the performance of the ref, he was spot on and had full control of the match. My assessments of the players are as follows:-
HOWARD—-6—-Not a lot to do really and did not have to make any real saves.
O’MALLEY—7—Had a very good game and as stated last week, should be LB very week.
CLARKE—3—Terrible game, many poor passes, caught out a few times, and was really bad.
TAFT—N/A—Onlt on for 9 min then injured.
McGAHEY—Not as strong as normal, but been out injured, first goal maybe his fault.
GILLIEAD—8—My MOM, and only him and KVV wanted to run at Cheltenham. good workrate.
SPENCE–6–Did ok without being a stand out.
KARACAN–6—Got by same as Spence but mid-field not very active first half.
GREEN–4—Did very little throughout the game, should have scored, not good enough.
KVV—7—Got through a lot of work with being out for so long, could have scored.
TOFT—4—Back to how he was in Sep to Nov, did not seem bothered.Subs —ONARIASE–7–, BEESTIN—5—, EISA—5—, HALLAM—5—
REF—-9—Very good ref, got things right.
Cox—5—Where was the attacking football first half???, didn’t do too bad because we were actually playing a good team today. Clarke and Green should have been subbed at half time.
We had a few good chances, but in general was second best to the Cheltenham team, we are still not out of the relegation scrap, and can still be sucked into it.

February 27, 2021 at 5:56 pm #202865I watched for the first time today. It was not a very incisive performance. I agree with the marks awarded by B. S. Disappointing result and there may be more to come… .
February 27, 2021 at 5:57 pm #202866I had the same feeling Les it looked like it had probably just gone out but it was quick and the Lino was right on it. There number 11 did very well to even get there he could really shift.
Also agree that if we had taken our chances they probably would’ve just turned it on and scored more. They were very happy to sit on a 2 goal lead and counter a bit.
Think we only seemed to attack more in the 2nd half because they let us.
We finished with more possession but it was about 80-20 in their favour when they wanted the ball.
February 27, 2021 at 5:58 pm #202867Clarke has had several very poor games this year but that one tops them all for me – positional, passing, pace, all so far off it.
Rowe is by far the better footballer currently. So where’s this Teddy Howe character?
3 RBs on the books so no excuse really.

February 27, 2021 at 6:29 pm #202869Similar to Bolton game, very little inclination to attack until we went behind. If Cox wants to play defensively and hope to score on the counter attack then fair enough, that’s his game plan. (Wouldn’t be mine) But please don’t treat us like idiots and give us this b******t about how we’re going to attack the opposition.

February 27, 2021 at 7:30 pm #202870The winger certainly made O’Malley look slow for the first goal and if he kept it in he did well but it must have been close to being out, but again like others have said we gave them too much respect first half and though we had clear chances we didn’t have a real go until we were two down, they scored two well taken goals but the defending was poor, like NI said where is Howe, I had forgot about him, also where is McAtee and Hippolyte.
We are now on course of one of our win a few and lose a few Sequences.
Very disappointed today but their keeper made some great saves but like Les said they would probably have scored another.
But fully agree with Cass.
February 27, 2021 at 7:40 pm #202872I’d forgot Howe was even here. A third right back always looked a strange signing when there were more pressing needs. And now he’s not even making the squad.
February 27, 2021 at 10:07 pm #202878where is Howe, I had forgot about him, also where is McAtee and Hippolyte.
And Dunwald-Turan!
February 27, 2021 at 11:52 pm #202880KDT has been missing since he tried a flick in the Salford home game
February 27, 2021 at 11:55 pm #202881Whilst we are on the subject of missing players, on visiting Scunthorpe Hospital last week I got talking to this really elderly guy, who informed me that he had played for Scunny from 1946 until 1954 and that his name was Chow Mein, he also informed me that he had been a Kamikaze Pilot in the 2nd world war, and joimed Scunny on leaving the air force, I told him that I watched Scunny from, 1951 and could not remember him playing.
I asked him how he had not been killed if he was a Kamikaze Pilot, he told me that “the reason being was because he was “Chicken Chow Mein”.
Sorry about that guys.
