Ok guys bill has obviously gone ga ga on this one, constant repitition, constant biblical quotations as a response to straight forward questions, guys he is clearly struggling. Best leave him to his whiskey and some space, give him time to calm down , don’t forget someone has to live with him. Anyhow a great win for the Iron tonight which is the main thing, whiskies all round, cheers.

BPG, a bit ironic that you ask me to explain what I’m talking about.

..getting back to the Cashless society..when you go to the counter with your bottle of whiskey and they say “ Sorry sir, you’ve already had a bottle for this month, the transaction has been declined” ,the light will come on- but it will be too late!

If you think any retainer would decline a sale, particularly in the present economic climate. You’re dafter than your Bible bashing makes you look.

It won’t be the retailer who declines the sale,it will be the totalitarian state.
In the short term a cashless society will seem “ just a different system”,but as the state becomes more controlling the repercussions will become more evident.
“ But I want to buy a bottle of whiskey.”
“Sorry sir, your card has declined the sale,it’s come up as “to protect your health”.

” I got the Paranoia blues from knocking around in New York City
Where they’ll roll you for a nickel and they’ll stick you for the extra dime “.

Great lyrics from a great song, Paranoia Blues by Paul Simon, you should take a listen bill whilst supping your whiskey and reading your bible.

You should write a dystopian novel BPG.

You’ve certainly got the ideas and the imagination.

Someone in the ” know” should post Paranoia Blues on here, some great bottle neck guitar from Stefan Grossman, a real musical treat.

It’s not going to happen bpg. It really is paranoia and a bit worrying. I would speak to someone trusted about it mate.

If I had to compare BPG to a film character he would be Aunt Sylvia from This Happy Breed, she’s a Bible passage ranting fruitcake too. 😜

We are in danger of having a lot of freedoms removed, but it’s what the left wants — the more state control the better for them — so the usual suspects have no problem with it.

It’s unlikely to be too long before the massive freedoms provided by personal motoring — 80% of households now own a car — are taken away. EVs will be ridiculously expensive and all journeys will be logged ‘for road tax’ purposes.

I might disagree with Bill on a lot of things but he’s not quite as nutty — or paranoid — as some on here like to make out.

I think the worries over being refused payments, linking it to his Christianity, does fit with a paranoid mind.

bpg has regularly talked of the great reset, a conspiracy theory. I am going to refrain from talking about fruitcakes and nuts, because that’s too far for me, but calling it out as a paranoid conspiracy theory is not out of order. We are allowed to call out right wing silliness. Just as we can with left wing silliness, and I have done, yet you have no issue with that.

Yeah, you’re right again Bucks; not being allowed to buy food unless you’re fully vaccinated against Covid isn’t paranoia at all. You’re just being contrary for the sake of it now.

I see the Royal Mint have now begun manufacturing new 50p pieces, wonder if they have a chip in them for tap and go payments?! ;-)

I think 50p a chip is probably what they cost these days!

The chip in them will be a winner with the cash only brigade, they will be able to place it on the opposite shoulder to the one they already have.

I’m not going to get involved in personal comments about BPG. I’m simply pointing out that society is heading in a dangerous direction with many freedoms in danger of being removed.

It’s unlikely to be too long before we’re told when we can and can’t use various appliances in our own homes, told when and where we can drive our cars and even what we should and shouldn’t be eating.

    These are serious issues.

If you aren’t going to get involved, don’t come and make out criticism of his conspiracies, which are OTT, are out of order. I am not saying anything to be nasty to him. He is free to spout it, but I am free to critique. This is supposed to be a free society.

Are you also concerned about the right to strike and protest?

    If not, you should be.

No need to worry about me, IA, I’ll be fine. It’s the poorest in society who will suffer. You know, the people you all claim to care about so much.

But, hey, I doubt you’ll have to do your washing at 3am to take advantage of the cheapest tariffs or live in an unheated house because you can’t afford to pay for “cheap” renewable energy.

Of course, this is all just a conspiracy theory, right? Yeah, right.

What an awfully mean spirited post. I’m sure all posters care about people who are suffering; no need to weaponise it. Saying the Tory Party doesn’t seem to give a fig about poorer people is very different from accusing you of it. You might refrain from taking it personally and lashing out?

And just to get the facts straight, one can only take advantage of doing the washing cheaper if you’re on a ‘time of use’ tarrif, and most people aren’t, so it’s a bit of a myth really that needs busting. Most people will not benefit from using high energy at 3am compared to 6pm:

Shocked to read that Bucks isn’t an international expert on washing machine tariffs.

    Correct Deerey.

We have no gas in our village so our house has electric night storage heaters.

Just before Covid we’d looked at updating to a Fischer system. To do that we’d have had to go on a flat rate tariff. We decided against it and stuck with what we had on an E10 tariff (7hrs cheaper rate overnight and 3hrs in the afternoon).

Glad we did as although our daytime unit rate has gone up by 25% the nighttime price has dropped by 20%.

So it will cost us less to run the heaters this winter than last, and we can put the dishwasher and washing machine on timer overnight too.

That’s why the government figure of £2,500 cap on annual use is a complete red herring. It’s all about unit price and usage. You could quite easily exceed £2,500 (Mrs NI has an electric kiln!).

Capping won’t make any difference. You either use power or you don’t. Nor will cash handouts or six month discounts. Sure they’ll help out short term, but long term the only realistic way of making it affordable to all is to keep the unit price low.

The reason my provider gave for the increase was that wholesale prices had risen, even on renewables. This begs the question, are producers holding the consumers to ransom like in the plot of “Total Recall”? Are companies more interested in profits and dividends for their shareholders than providing essential services to the public?

I don’t know, but I do know that the problem won’t be solved by giving every household £400 over six months. As welcome as it is it doesn’t address the real issues.
