Just f**king unbelievable. Excellent first half thrown away by the useless management team who don’t know how to kill a game off.

I’m not a fan of the management team, but that’s unfair.

We conceded the equaliser, not because we sat back, but because we have no one in midfield or up front who can hold the ball.

I remember back in the glory days, Beags would get the ball and keep it by the corner flag for the duration of added time!

The defence were doing their job and clearing it, but once Jarvis was replaced by O’Neill and despite Scrimshaw putting himself about it kept coming back into our box.

Again it was dealt with okay, but Beestin trying to dribble it out, and Hippolyte with his boots on the wrong feet, meant two errors led to two goals.

Nothing the management team could have done about it!

My main concern is fitness. We led them a merry dance in the first half, but tired visibly in the second. The last 15 minutes several players were dead on their feet.

Carlisle on the other hand finished strongly. And that for me was the difference.

Carlisle were woeful today and were there for the taking, the management should have been drilling into the players to chase the 3rd but it was obvious that wasn’t the case.

Why couldn’t we play the ball to feet in the middle as we was first half and take the extra touch to find Jarvis who was doing a good job holding the ball up? We have such a weak mentality and you could see the equaliser coming a mile off.

You can’t help individual errors-and Beestin really needs to be having a word himself Tonight- but for me there is a long-standing mentality with a Cox team to sit back 15-20 yards and park the bus whilst hoping for the best as soon as we get a lead.

    It’s not good enough.

Green? Who many thought should take a spell on the bench.

    Hallam? If fully fit.

    Bunn? Where was he?

    O’Neill? Not convinced!

    Hackney? Likewise.

We’ve a number of players who are much of a muchness. Lacking that little bit of quality that’ll make the difference.

But we knew that, didn’t we?

Came on, but yes, he could have started.

That would have made it Beestin, Wood, Perry, Pugh.

    Not much width there.

Which makes the decision to bring in two CMFs on deadline day at the expense of a wide man even stranger.

Obviously gutted by the result we deserved all 3 points, but we did play well most of the game if they put that out every week nobody should be disappointed everyone put a shift in and that’s all people have been asking for, that one mistake from Beestin shouldn’t have cost us 2 points but when things aren’t going your way that’s what happens, should have gone 3-0 up when we had a 2 on 1 with Beestin and Jarvis but Beestin put the ball to far in front of himself, Beestin still played well and would still have got a 6 from me, man of the match Jarvis worked his socks off, to me none of our starting players had a poor game. Stick with the 4,4,2 Cox surely you saw the difference it made, Carlisle very poor and we let them back into the game they hardly deserved to be in, but very nice to be in that winning position for once even though we let it go. Onwards and upwards up the Iron.

Perfect for the old diamond though, I’m just a believer in picking your best players in their best positions and using a system that fits that. Better than picking your system and making the players fit that IMO.

Would agree, but if some of your best players are injured, and some of what’s left just aren’t very good, you still have a problem.

We still never looked like scoring from anything other than a corner, free-kick or penalty yesterday.

As I said before, the players are much of a muchness. Little spark of creativity and no obvious leadership.

Need someone with a bit of “oomph!”

Agree with you both Cass and NI. I think our players now fall into 3 different categories.
    1. Players that can just about hack League 2 football
    2. Players that are not yet ready or have not yet proved they are ready for League 2 football
    3. Those that probably never will be ready

The time has come to decide the category ones and they are in the squad regardless. Top up the bench (and the team in times of excessive injuries – do the Iron have any other times) with the category twos.

Pay off, loan out or send training with the Academy the category threes to see if they can pick up some basic footballing skills.

My take is that the category ones are probably:

GK’S Watson & Bilson (when fit)
RB’s Rowe – Jury out on Millen but hopeful when properly fit
CB’s Onariase, Davis, Taft & Rowe at a push
    LB’s O’Malley & Thompson
    RM’s Bunn and possibly Wilson
CM’s Beeston, Perry, Pugh, Wood and Kenyon (hope his is a bit quicker when fit)
LM’s Only viable options are play Bunn their with Wilson or Wood on the right (or the one that is not playing LB)
Front 2 Jarvis, Scrimshaw and Loft when fit

    My category twos
Hackney, Collins, Hallam (on the odd occasion he is fit)

    Category threes
Hippolyte, Green, O’Neil. All have had chances and never shown any signs they are or will ever be League standard

Baker, Shrimpton, Gallimore, Jessop all too young/inexperienced to have expectations of. Wilson looks to be the one youngster comfortable at League level based on pre-season performances.

If the category ones can stay long term injury free we have a chance of staying up but why we used our last two loan slots on more centre midfield players when we are desparate for wide midfielders I have no idea.

I’d argue that’s what Cox has been doing and has been a big part of our problem.

Onarise, Taft and Davis are all in our best 11 so we’ve been playing 5 at the back to get them all in and it doesn’t work. None of them look comfortable in a 3 and none of the full backs look happy at wing back.

But Cox may look at us shipping two goals again, and think it might have been better to have tightened the defence with five at the back?

And whilst we are suffering 75 minutes syndrome, that’s going to remain the case Alky.

4-4-2 with two recognised CBS and two recognised FBs worked well for 30 to 40 mins, but due to the lack of width the FBs were a) caught out of position, and b) knackered from chasing up and down the wings.

As suggested by others, playing Thompson ahead of O’Malley (or vice-versa) on the left, and Bunn ahead of Thompson on the right may be a possible solution.

However, once again, this all depends on how injury free we can stay.

Neil Cox “We knew they would change at half time; we had done our homework and we’ve seen that they push everybody forward. We had to be ready for it and I thought we were, but we showed a little bit of inexperience when we should have just seen it out. It feels like a loss, but we would have taken a draw after last week’s result. However, we are disappointed.”

We never learn, just keep going and put them on the back foot, we can’t sit back for 45 minutes without conceding, it was a great effort but we aren’t in winning form or confidence, Neil you got the first half right but you created pressure in the second half, if they want to get back in the game don’t give them encouragement.

Neil Cox “We knew they would change at half time; we had done our homework

He does his homework every week but it doesn’t do any good, maybe he should stop doing homework and just go and play attacking football.
