like I said before Crawley it depends which team turns up for us, I can’t see us getting anything out of it tonight but we have shocked teams before and we still need a couple of wins to be sure of safety.
April 6, 2021 at 9:34 am #204204The Onariase interview suggests we intend to defend our way to a result. Which comes as no surprise, the opposition have a few more points than us so they must be feared.
Evening off for the Carlisle goalkeeper?
April 6, 2021 at 10:19 am #204206Our manager declared the last 10 matches were very important, to establish momentum heading into the close season.
After the Crawley game ‘the last 9 games are very important’.
Had enough – ‘target’ away Messrs Cox, Swann & Swann because this season was and still is a collective disaster, own it !!

April 6, 2021 at 12:10 pm #204210I have previously watched all the away matches but after the display against Crawley I am going to give the Carlisle game a miss.I could not believe some so-called professional footballers could be so bad.

April 6, 2021 at 1:24 pm #204212If fit I’d like to see:
Howard
Howe
Onariase
Bedeau
O’MalleySpence
KaracanGreen
McAtee
EisaOlomola
What we’ll probably get is Loft running around like a headless chicken chasing massive hoofs from the back…then when the ball does eventually get near him it’ll either bounce off his knee/shin to a Carlisle player, he’ll sprint off and forget to take the ball with him or he’ll aimlessly punt the ball into touch.
I, for one, cannot wait to watch.

April 6, 2021 at 2:11 pm #204214Best team required, exciting attacking football from the start.
Something to inspire us and create expectation for next season.
Will we get any of it, highly doubtful.1 user thanked author for this post.

That line up… wow
Why oh why not go 4-4-2 and give loft and Olomola a go??
If Olomola is fit enough for the bench surely he could start!Cox is the exact opposite of a manager who wants his team to play exciting and attacking football
I’d love to be wrong and we go up there and get 3 or 4 goals but I just can’t see it
April 6, 2021 at 6:08 pm #204221Watson probably had the game of his career in the home game against Carlisle.
He will probably have to do it again for us to get anything this evening.
April 6, 2021 at 6:55 pm #20422225 minutes in and this is horrible
Target practice for Carlisle
Cox needs to stop focusing on the opposition and let our better players off the leash in an attack formation

but lightening doesn’t usually strike twice.
April 6, 2021 at 7:33 pm #204224When will cox finally realise that loft can’t and I repeat can’t play as a lone striker! He has got all his goals this season playing as a two yet he continually plays him as a lone striker.
I have said this before at least three times as well, Make teams worry about us rather then playing formations to stifle them.
Agreed with playing this way at Cambridge as they are probably the best team in league! But against Carlisle who have been struggling and have only just come off a dodgy spell him selves surely you attack them.4 users thanked author for this post.
April 6, 2021 at 7:56 pm #204225We not bothered about defending corners tonight ?
April 6, 2021 at 8:01 pm #204227If this was 5 vs 0 you couldn’t argue against it… predictably blunt!!
April 6, 2021 at 8:12 pm #204230We not bothered about defending corners tonight ?
We don’t look very bothered about much at all.

April 6, 2021 at 8:28 pm #204232Another nil with little attacking intent.

April 6, 2021 at 8:32 pm #204233Two shots though they were both on target in 94 minutes.
April 6, 2021 at 8:32 pm #204234Same old shit, should have played 442,with attacking mindset.A chimp could manage this lot better.gates next year will be below 1000 with muppet in charge.

April 6, 2021 at 8:37 pm #2042352nd GK played. (Not too badly.)
4th best and 5th best CBs played tonight.
Best striker out.Lone striker? – How often has this worked for the Iron in the last two decades?
Square balls and pushed backwards 95% of the time – the other 5% is long hit and hope.
Watch how Carlisle moved the ball forward.Off the ball movement was desperately poor.
Sigh.

April 6, 2021 at 8:48 pm #204236Thanks to Covid I didn’t have to drive across there and sit and watch that crap in freezing temperatures.
One positive from tonight!
April 6, 2021 at 8:48 pm #204237Can’t see this shower winning another point this season. Just hope we’ve enough points in the bag. Just listening Swan on the radio. It’s all Covid’s fault. Doesn’t seem to have affected anyone else

April 6, 2021 at 9:13 pm #204240Same old repeated crap coming out of Swanny’s mouth! “We didn’t have a proper pre season.” Neither did any other team Peter. “We had training sessions in groups of two.” So did every other team in the country Peter! We’re just shit and I can’t see it getting any better any time soon.

That is better than last week Mick, thus one up front doesn;t appear to be working tonight, maybe it is because it is a new sytem for Scunny!!!!
After the match, Swanny is putting all the club problems to the Corona 19 virus, I wasn;t aware that any of our players had actually had the virus, I can understand the finacial side of things being very badly effected, but on the field it is the players and mnagement that have that task, for the record, does the virus only effect Scunthorpe. there was me thinking that rules where in place throughout the country!!!
April 6, 2021 at 10:02 pm #204249Here goes with the grim task of trying to look on the bright side for another matcj summary.
WATSON—6—Did what he could and no fault with either goal made one fantastic point blank save.
HOWE–6–He is getting better with ga,e time. works well with Gilliead.
BEDEAU—6—Defended well. but lacks height for corners were we are very vunerable.
CLARKE—5—Two bad toughes which went unpunished, Onariasse badly missed.
O’MALLEY—7—I like him playing, up against a really fast winger, but stuck with him.
BEESTIN—6—Not able to support forward play because of Carlisle constant attack.
GREEN—5—Did nothing again before being injured.
KARACAN–8—Probably my MOM, see his class in him.
SPENCE–6–Played ok, but no support for our inapt front.
GILLIEAD–7—A few good runs, but head dropped after 0-2 down, nothing up front again.
LOFT—4—The young guy gets worse, no ball control, poor passer and no support from anywhere.EISA–5—He should be playing better than this, whats gone wrong??
MCTEE–5—Also has given up, poor team system and no one is really bothered in Scunny.REF—8—Did very well and kept it going where possible, a first year ref is not narmally as good as this guy, and they are normally whistle happy.
COX—4—When will this guy give up with his one up front rubbish, and try attacking for a change, and for fans watching to get a scrap of enjoyment and entertainment out of our matches.
Cox has knocked all fun out of supporting the team, we are well safe in the league, but still will not let the team play a bi of attacking football, his systems have ruined any fun out of watching.
Sad report, but what can we say after getting overrun, and it should have been 5-0 with the chances they missed.April 6, 2021 at 11:38 pm #204255Loft has had a total of 2 shots on target in the last 5 matches, it really is poor how bad our attacking play is.
Bored bored bored.
April 7, 2021 at 12:15 am #204259We all know Loft struggles upfront on his own, yet he keeps playing him isolated as the lone striker.
Loft has regressed somewhat in recent matches but I feel a bit sorry for him due to the lack of support and the service to him is non existent.
I thought Loft looked a promising player when upfront with Eisa… least he had somebody to link up with.
I honestly don’t get Cox at all. I’ve no idea what he’s trying to do.
Swann stated that Cox’s wants to play 4/4/2 but doesn’t have strikers there to play the two upfront, yet he has Olomola now fit so that’s complete horse crap.
We could always promote Jessop to possibly come on from the bench to cover Olomola’s subs bench place.
No excuse at all.
If Cox doesn’t watch it, we could still go down yet !
April 7, 2021 at 8:08 am #204261I know some will disapprove of my argument but regarding the one up front formations, we must still look back to the Kyle Wootton era.
That lad is now scoring at roughly a goal every other game for NL side Notts Co and we let him leave. He is easily good enough for L2 and probably League One.
Big, strong, quick and with an eye for goal. He was ruined at this club. He was either pushed wide or played isolated from other attackers. I could always see that, with careful development, he really had that ‘something’. I never criticised him but often felt the need to complain about those who almost wrecked him and made little attempt to develop the lad properly.Well. We now have Loft. Yes, some of his skills have been utter crap on occasions but he has guts and a phenomenal work rate. He has shown us pace and skill too. He has a nose for goal on those few occasions he is allowed to go near the opposition’s box.
Nine goals and six assists in a team culture which does not believe in playing the ball forward really is not too bad.
He is playing the hardest role in football – and getting precious little supply and help.
Yes. This guy needs to improve. Yes. He needs to learn some of the skills that a forward has to possess and, happily, we have seen enough in his attitude to know that he is no shrinking violet. He wants to ‘be the best he can be’ but my problem is not with him but rather, with systems that are not helping him develop as he surely is able to do.
Our next forward signing should be someone experienced who can bring the best out of the lad. I see no reason why he cannot become a 15+ goals a season striker who also brings others into play.
When you are isolated and outlets are precious few he is so eager to make things work that he gets desperate and that’s when the worst errors creep in.
It’s in there. Let’s not have another Kyle Wootton or, even worse, a Lyle Taylor disaster. Spend the time teaching him a little bit of coolness and the requisite skills. It will pay dividends.2 users thanked author for this post.

We’ve also a lad called Harry Jessop. If Jude Bellingham can get a game for England at 17, surely Jessop can turn out for a struggling L2 club at 18!

April 7, 2021 at 9:34 am #204272I can’t give you half a ‘Thanks’ les. I agree with all you say about Loft, why can’t Cox see that he doesn’t work as a lone striker. Is he a Covid carrier that the other players have been told a 10 metre social distance is advisable?
However Wootton a potential L1 player – I don’t know whether to laugh or cry. -
