Happy 100th – a monumental fundraising effort. Now that the government’s responsibility is about to receive an additional £30m from the public they should do the right thing and give £30m to those charities delivering essential services to vulnerable people that are facing imminent collapse.

Delirious or still drunk from last night?

‘they gave £360,000,000 to help vulnerable charities and steered another £360,000,000 from the lottery fund, did well didnt they.’

Hello? See that, there, above? That’s your quote that is.

Well done sir Tom, and well done Boris. There plenty of undeserving honours but this one is well deserved.

Boris must be running out of awards to give this chap. God parent to his baby? Commander of the Army? Foreign Secretary? Prime Minister?

Interesting timing that these awards are handed out on the days that Boris surfaces for work to get taken apart again at Prime Minister’s questions.

Where the hell has he been for a week? He thinks he’s Churchill but he appears in public once every week. Can you imagine Blair, Cameron, Magor, even useless May not taking control of this crisis?

Is he still in charge? Is he leading from the front? Is he just lazy?

Or after his last appearance at the briefing and his Sunday night speech has he become such a liability that he has been told to keep his public appearances to a minimum of one day per week!!

Tom Moore deserves recognition and a knighthood is one way of that, and I do not begrudge him this.

There is a political motivation to this, just as there is to most honours, and it has been throughout Labour and Tory governments.

This was a no brainer for Johnson, as it would be for any PM, so I am not going to go overboard in criticism because it is part and parcel of how the honours system has been for a while, but it does mean that I am not going to give a lot of praise Johnson for doing this. It’s hardly a big ask for Johnson to do this, and it is still somewhat tokenistic. Moore earned praise for his raising of funds for healthcare; Johnson has been part of governments which have harmed healthcare. When Johnson follows up with promises and actually makes a difference to healthcare, as Moore has tried to do, he will earn some praise on this issue.

Not the first time a Centurion has come to the aid of a failing Empire!
