I intentionally watched and listened to Taft as captain for the night last night! To say he is not a captain is an understatement, he and also Harry Davis are the quietest and least tactically aware captains we have ever had.
In the position we are in we need a vocal, experienced and tactically aware captain, Taft and Davis are neither and as much as we need an attacking midfielder and two strikers I believe we also need a experienced centre back that can also captain the team.
Someone mentioned David Wheater a great player but not played for two years now and we have had enough crocks to last us a lifetime, someone like Peter Clarke at tranmere would be ideal but not sure who is available but we definitely need someone who can organise and give someone a right earful.

January 26, 2022 at 6:16 pm #230586LBH we haven’t had a decent captain since Stephen Dawson, never out the refs ear all game, barking orders out at players all over the park. He was a proper arse kicker, we desperately need one now.

January 26, 2022 at 6:59 pm #230587Feeney??
Needs someone with an older head. And someone preferably that is league standard.
Taft decision to tackle in the penalty box like that was sackable.January 26, 2022 at 7:13 pm #230589Do you get older than 35?
January 26, 2022 at 7:20 pm #230590What is dawson’s current status or did he burn his bridges with the wage negotiation 3 years ago?
January 26, 2022 at 7:25 pm #230593Dawson had several injuries after moving on, plus he may have criticised he who is beyond reproach !! So that would rule him out.
I think Liam Feeney will have the armband. But the missing piece is at CB ours don’t jump or challenge !

January 26, 2022 at 10:05 pm #230609Certainly no outfield ‘leaders’. You’d think Keith will give to a new recruit, although that would completely destroy what little confidence Taft has left right now (if any). It’s always a controversial call to make bearing in mind his position, however on current form the only player capable of wearing it is Watson.

Rumoured we’re after one Sanfran. SSN even said 2 more are due in besides Feeney and Nuttall who hasn’t signed yet.
From what I’ve read one is an experienced defensive midfielder in place of Kenyon and the other is an experienced CB as Davis’s replacement. I hope we move Jarvis or KDT on and get another striker though because we definitely need another one.
Going by this maybe Wheater isn’t such a far fetched suggestion after all.
Wheater told The Buff Podcast that he has spoken with Darlington manager Alun Armstrong about a potential deal but is first dealing with a disc problem in his back which has been present since 2014, in his playing days at Wanderers.
“I have always been offered the operation but said I didn’t want to have the time off,” he said. “It is only three or four months so if I can get it done now I’ll be right for January.
That was from an interview he gave on 14th September last year.
January 27, 2022 at 6:29 am #230614Will struggle to move KDT on as hrs represented 2 clubs this season now so can’t play for anyone else,I think that’s right?
Guessing he won’t agree to been paid up and happy to hang around or we would of by now.January 27, 2022 at 8:46 am #230616Our squad must be getting pretty full, how many first team players are we allowed?
I think Pele might be right about KDT too, unless Stockport doesn’t count by being in the fifth tier?

Nuttall, another striker striker and a centre half apparently… need to move some out to make room though.
January 27, 2022 at 1:42 pm #230644I thought that’s what the hold up was. Bit risky not signing a DCM because that’s where we’re desperately lacking, an experienced player breaking and dictating the play up.
Nice to know we’re after another striker though because not enough with just Nuttall and Burns.
