Let’s hope he lasts longer than the last player Hilton signed from an Aberdeen club.

    Notts fan here.

That signing is crazy ! Keep him fit and he’s the best player outside of the EFL

He came to us from Blyth and ripped up the league, one of those players that everytime he got the ball you are on the edge of your seat – has twinkle toes as he can dance round players.

Then he got injured and it was one of those injuries where they couldn’t find the root cause – they even thought it was COVID related at one point.

By the time he came back we had a new manager who didn’t seem as keen on Cal and his confidence dropped and we played a system that didn’t suit him as well. He still looked great but had niggles and was in and out the team.

Last summer when Williams arrived he was looking back to his best and I think Williams would have got the best out of him but Cal was determined to move on and so signed for Aberdeen where he got injured and was pretty much out all season.

He did have some infractions at Notts. He and Rodrigues who were thick as thieves went to the boxing one night and turned up for training really hungover. Ruben apologied but Cal refused to and so was dropped for a while. It led to some stuff being said on twitter as well, but I think a lot of that was to do with his relationship with the then manager. cal is desperate to be loved, keep him fit and build the team round him and he will get you back to back promotions

Looks like the medical went well.

We signed an injured Rance so let’s wait and see. Ability wise though he shouldn’t be at this level. A good striker in the building and we’ll be set to go.

Comparing this squad to last season, it just shows the utter crap Swann signed off on. Least now we have squad depth.

WOW waking up to this news ..very surprising. After reading all the comments seems hes a cracker of a player but very injury prone, money paid and a 2 year deal DH showing real intent.

one of those players that everytime he got the ball you are on the edge of your seat

We haven’t had one of those since the days of Beagrie, Cleveland and Hodges

If we can keep him off the physio’s bench then we have just made one hell of a signing!

Just done some checking up. Went to Blyth with my Chester mate, October 2019. He said they (Spartans) have a player on loan from Newcastle who’s supposed to be shit-hot. That was Roberts.

Danny Elliott was playing for Chester and scored a cracker after just 3 minutes. Roberts then turned on the style and Blyth equalised soon after.

Then on 35 minutes he went off injured. Game finished 2-2.

Both Roberts and Elliott looked a cut above on that day. Should be exciting seeing how they combine for us.

True – but then, he never did all that much to help us out, did he?

True – but then, he never did all that much to help us out, did he?

Scored a couple of half decent goals and could be a tricky customer for full backs to deal with on his day but he came with a glowing reputation as I recall and never really lived up to his billing IMO. His off field antics got more headlines then his on field performances in an Iron shirt and he appeared to lose his way for awhile in his personal life, hopefully he’s back on track now.

Young players often lose their way if they don’t have a great mentor.

I was pleased to see Colclough get back on track, enjoyed watching him away at Wimbledon a few years ago.

Hope Callum has put the past behind him, has some hunger to match his talent and has a great season to kick us on.

Roberts comes across as a player who just wants to be part of something again and get himself playing some football. According the the interview he gave after signing he stated “I just want to get back to loving my football again” so clearly has lost a bit of love for the game.

keep him relatively fit and get him mixing in with the other players with some goals and brilliant performances along the way and he’ll be fine.

From what I saw from Notts County fans after we signed him there is absolutely no chance on this earth that he should ever be at this level. I can’t wait to see him and what he brings to the table.
