Buxton deservedly won, we was a complete shambles and only played with any urgency in added on time, and their keeper made a great save in the last minute, they didn’t create a lot but took their chances when they got them, I just wish we played with more urgency, we certainly don’t look like a top team at the moment, and why so many defenders

Actually thought we started OK but it all went to hell in a handcart fairly quickly and you just knew once we conceded the first goal we would lose the game. Don’t think we’ve won a single game this season in any game we’ve conceded in. Another poor stat considering we’re the ‘fittest team in the league’. We look shot of confidence all over the pitch, it’s almost like the team have lost all belief in the system, much like the fans.
Sorry to be banging the same drum but Nicholson shouldn’t be anyway near the team sheet. I say it every game but the amount of mistakes he makes, it just cannot continue, long throw or not. Accusations being made that Butler has ‘favourites’ and it’s seeming that way given certain players are untouchable and others that deserve a shot, can’t get a sniff.
Lots of booing in the stands at full time, which you would think may force some change or a least give some food for thought, alas we got the usual post match interview on Humberside. Individual errors, slow to second balls and so on BUUUUTTTT the formation is fine.
Stubborn as a mule and will not even entertain the idea that the formation and style of play (if we have one?) might be the problem. My personal favourite soundbite from the interview ‘I believe it’s a successful formation, it’s worked for us majority of the season’…. COMICAL! If he wasn’t so monotone and deadpan I’d be convinced he’s using satire. We’ve had 2.5 decent performances in 20 games.
The level of detachment from reality is a real worry. He seems to be seeing something different to the 3500+ at the game, and not in a good way. Unfortunately having a couple of coaching badges does not automatically give you a ‘football brain’ and being an ex-player doesn’t automatically mean your cut out for management. Let’s face it, his only experience; a stint with the Doncaster Ladies, ended with him being sacked. I’m sure he can add value as part of a management staff, given his focus on fitness maybe he can do the fitness programmes and so on, but a number one he is NOT.
If we parted ways with Lee Turnbull the saving on his salary would cover the losses on paying up Butler. Time to wave goodbye to them both and call it (another) lesson learned on renewing contracts far too early. The dwindling crowds will more than negate the financial upside of keeping Butler in post (already seen a rather unhelpful ‘vote with your feet’ post on SUFG), plus the further we tumble the less attractive we become to an incoming manager. Give someone a fighting chance and get them in now whilst we have a two week break from the league.
November 10, 2024 at 11:02 am #293585Out played again by the Bucks .. sussed us out n did a proper job on us ..dire performance again little desire or effort deserved nothing n thats what they got.
AB post match interview was just the same as usual, at least not a mention of clean sheets (remember them 9 in 3 conceded) the sound bites are becoming less as toppa the league has become just a fleeting memory… to be replace by , we are still up there … until we are mid table that is.

November 10, 2024 at 2:12 pm #293606Must be frustrating for the players the DRE baying at the players to press, and them not being allowed to, and wasn’t just a few either it was really getting nasty but funny at the same time.
November 10, 2024 at 2:48 pm #293607How do you know they’re not allowed to press? Have they told you?
November 10, 2024 at 3:52 pm #293613How do you know they’re not allowed to press? Have they told you?
Butler addressed the issue on Humberside post match, he said the plan was to let the Buxton keeper have the ball and not press him because of the system they were playing. Make of that what you will, I always think pressing the keeper can force a mistake occasionally but then again I’m not a football manager.
November 10, 2024 at 3:59 pm #293615Their Keeper maybe, surely not in general? Earlier in the season we were pressing and on the front foot. Seemed to work, if not ‘ole!’ football.

And there you go, additional players won’t make any difference whatsoever. Butler needs to change it and clearly he’s in denial. All that will happen is, we’ll end up spending more money on players for them to struggle in the same system.
Any idiot that claims he needs two/three seasons seriously needs to wake up

in other words we was more worried about Buxton than they were of us, though they are a good side at this level it is still Buxton and not even a top National League Premier team, if Andy is set to play cautiously in this division god help us if we go up, this cross passing and back is like watching Alan Knill’s teams when he was here, he had an excuse we were in the Championship, he can’t have a lot of faith in the players
November 10, 2024 at 6:20 pm #293625This is one time when you need to be there to see it Deerey.
The idiot head obviously heard it and felt he had to address it in his interview, and that would be all well and good but when your losing 3-1 and it’s quite obvious the goalie is taking the piss and wasting time you get word onto the field and bin that tactic, which he failed to do hence abuse.November 10, 2024 at 6:39 pm #293626In the first half Whitehall closed their keeper down and almost won the ball so why stop doing it. Come on Andy give the crowd what they want fast free flowing attacking football. In your opinion we have got the fittest and best squad in the league so come on prove it. I beg to differ.
November 10, 2024 at 6:55 pm #293627We closed them down 4 or 5 times in the first half. We created attacking situations and won free kicks in dangerous areas on the back of this. They were determined to play out from the back but they weren’t actually very good at it.
Could not believe it when we actually backed off them and let them do it.
If you are going to insist on a very rigid game plan then it better be a good one and it had better deliver.
I have seen every game this season (2 or 3 via streaming) apart from Newcastle away and I have no idea what our game plan is.

November 11, 2024 at 11:40 am #293656The lack of pressing on the keeper was pathetic, at 3-1 down at home to assist them in their efforts to ‘play for time’ by allowing the keeper to stand with the ball unchallenged is ridiculous.
There’s so much wrong with this team, the back three are so error prone that we could reduce errors at the back by 33% simply by switching to a two!
Part of their issue though is that they don’t have a reasonable passing option, Clunan makes himself available but is so lightweight that he gets bullied off the ball so they’re scared to give him it. Add to that the wing backs are so terrified to take on a player that the ball inevitably just comes back to the centre halves which puts them under pressure again. This is why we saw it go repeatedly (and mostly pointlessly) long on Saturday. All of that said Nicholson may well be the worst player I’ve ever seen at GP, he simply cannot pass the ball consistently and is an accident waiting to happen.
The midfield is also an ocean of nothingness that can be ran through at will, their first and third goals being prime examples (and Spennymoor’s 3rd regardless of the ref). We are cut apart by a couple of simple passes regularly and players are allowed to travel a long way without being challenged.
I think the biggest priorities are:
– Change to a back 4, let the full backs play at full back and drop Nicholson.
– Sign a midfielder with some physicality who can gain control of the middle and bully the opposition.
– Sign a left winger so we can play 451 or 4333 users thanked author for this post.
November 11, 2024 at 12:18 pm #293660The dribble through our ‘defence’ to score that particular goal had Nicholson just standing around looking confused.
We must forget about the long throws – he must be dropped!November 11, 2024 at 1:12 pm #293661‘an ocean of nothingness’. Phrase of the year!

You couldn’t possibly know this to be accurate, surely?
November 11, 2024 at 2:36 pm #293664Unfair dismissal and a tribunal would be very costly for the club.

November 12, 2024 at 9:45 pm #293751Over the last 2 seasons I seem to remember many/most teams that played above themselves against us suffered defeat in their next match.

November 13, 2024 at 2:15 am #293764Still can’t advocate sacking him. New players and change of formation. Surely both will happen now?
