So if they play like they did last season and there manager has paid slight attention to the Iron games so far.
Stifle/Outmuscle Scunny and a draw is easily attainable and with there dodgy defence as of late pinch a goal.
No Whitehall ?
No New Signings it will be dull and crowd will be restless.1-1
3453.Food still crap so grab a M&S sarnie beforehand. Or even better look after the waistline and go 90 mins or so and eat nothing.

November 7, 2024 at 9:26 am #293238Agree with all that RB .. after the Southport Radcliffe and Spenny performances i am concerned as our formation n style has been sussed so Buxton will come and do a job on us same as last season.
1-1 0r even 0-1 to Bux (if Whall still out)
att mid 3000sNovember 7, 2024 at 9:43 am #293239Won’t be there fortunately. Oh sorry unfortunately. No fortunately.
If anyone is bored have a count of how many non forward passes we make.
So sideways and backwards.I watched one of our defenders t’other night in 2nd half, had full endeavour at half way line to stride forward with the ball.
Got 5 yards or so about turn and ball went backwards 20 yards.
Not just defenders though is it.November 7, 2024 at 10:24 am #293251Fitzsimons
Scales Barrows Boyce Denton
Clunan (only ‘cos he can’t be dropped but not allowed to pass to Barrows or Boyce)
Shrimpton Brogan Beestin
Roberts
Fishburn (assuming Whitehall n/a)They won’t be expecting that.

You’re not kidding.
I’d go a flat back 4
Denton, Boyce, Max, Barrows
clunan sitting with Beestin and brogan further up
Roberts left side, carlton right side with The fish up the middle “if whitehall isn’t fit”
or Carlton up top with scales right side and roberts on the other.
We badly need some width. Those options have to be better than what Butler’s serving up at the minute.

Not just defenders though is it.Not sure I agree with that.
On Tuesday night the defence spent most of the time hitting it long into the wide areas hoping Beags and Cleveland were still playing for us!
Sideways/back passes came about when Moors were pressing us (which they did pretty well). Though there was noticeably less “to me, to you” at the back than of late.
November 7, 2024 at 10:58 am #293271Those supporters behind the dug out and watching nltv may have seen Butlers exasperation at one of our defenders playing it back to Fitz from near the half way line? Appreciate all he may have done is lump it up to an opposition defender mind…
November 7, 2024 at 11:25 am #293276So is that the magnitude of our passing skills then?
An easy ball to a player behind or sideways with acres of space is just that.
Or a lump up for a lottery.A forward ball to a player with 5 yards of space we can’t execute.
I beg to differ it’s only Moors that cause us to sideways and pass back.
November 7, 2024 at 11:55 am #293283So Carlton back to being a forward again WG, lol, to me if Whitehall is out you’ve got to persevere with him he just needs game time and confidence a goal might just sort it all out for him.
November 7, 2024 at 11:58 am #293284Recent games have shown that awaywego was right in the worth of Whitehall. It’s still early days for Carlton, but is doing nothing to show he has to usurp Whitehall in the starting lineup.

November 7, 2024 at 2:30 pm #293286Different style, Carlton as a lone striker – no chance, with Whitehall? Maybe given time.
November 7, 2024 at 2:59 pm #293287Come on Andy give the fans what we want, vindaloo football (we’re going to score one more than you). It’s still only the three points you get whether you win one nil or six five, so come on Andy go for it. If we lose at least the vast majority would forgive you for having a go.

But would the Board if it meant we didn’t go on up? I don’t think so. Perhaps where some of the defensive approach comes from, along with his ex-player role of course. There’s a balance to be struck between not conceding and setting up to give us a fighting chance of scoring, IMO. He hasn’t got it right yet, but can.

To be fair after that first half performance from him against Spennymoor when he couldn’t trap a simple ball up to him, gave me flash backs all those years ago of Matt Bailey “those who know, know”
I fully understand he isn’t fully fit, but he was failing to do the simple basics a not match fit player should have pulled off. I’m not giving up on him because where we are we can ill afford to give up on anybody, but interesting to see he’s a been a winger nearly all his career and netted 16 last season again cutting in from the wing.
I remember Butler saying when he signed him he saw him as a striker so maybe he’s feeling as little bit out of his depth playing there and couple that with the lack of match fitness and over eagerness to impress could be what’s making him struggle so much.
That performance the other night was worrying from Carlton. There were some questionable performances across the board, but can’t remember seeing a player struggle as much as him in a very, very long time.
It does throw up questions and make you ask yourself if he’s a striker as Butler believes or a winger where he’s played the majority of his career ?

November 7, 2024 at 3:54 pm #293295As I recall last season Buxton had a proper meathead in their management team, all thickset, shaved skull and waving his arms about gesticulating manically to anyone on the Iron bench who questioned his antics, should be fun if he’s still with them. Alternatively we could give Awaywego a cold stale meat pie with a flat pint and watch the same thing.
November 7, 2024 at 4:30 pm #293301Always advocated him being on the wing if only for him to be in the team, nothing like a player with pace at least makes the other team think a bit, and that’s what other teams should be doing worrying about what we can do and not the other way round.

November 7, 2024 at 5:44 pm #2933101 Campbell
2 Shrimpton 3 Kelly 5 Evans 6 Boyce
7 Beestin 4 Clunan 8 Scales 11 Roberts
9 Whitehall 10 FishburnIt’s a bare bones squad… injuries and we’re snookered.
November 7, 2024 at 8:11 pm #293336November 7, 2024 at 8:18 pm #293338I hope that if we get the same Buxton cheating as last year – we have a ref strong enough to deal with it!

November 8, 2024 at 1:48 am #293351Having just watched AB pre Buxton interview vid im not filled with optimism .. sadly seems hes gonna stick to his favourite formation .. James Moddy questions are becoming more difficult to be different also
other sound bites
A tough game
Bux well organized physical side
Had a good week in training and prepared well
We watched them and know how we can hurt them
We must move the ball quicker
Still learning
Fans must be patient
We have the best squad in the league ?
and not leaving out my fav chestmut … how other teams raise their game when coming to AAGP to play us.of note
Difficulty in signing players :(
AB LT Scoff seem to source anyone worth a look.. here it is (sorry about the huge link title took it off FBIMO this one another hard watch .. without a freaky Brackley Kiddy or Farsley performance im sticking with my 1-1 or 0-1 Bux the first goal is massive in this one.

Another square peg in a round hole. He’s in good company with Denton, Barrows, Beestin, Robert’s et al. Little wonder we look so out of sorts and (cue Butler soundbite) ‘not our fluent best’ when half the team are playing in positions that are not their natural ones.
November 8, 2024 at 9:58 am #293370“Statistically, we’re due to lose a home game… it could well be this one”.
Statistically, we’re due to win on a Saturday…!

November 8, 2024 at 2:49 pm #293403Dicky Dosh once changed a lineup brining in 1 player – to fit them in he moved 6 others !
Due to confused players were well beaten.
Square pegs in round holes never works perhaps 2moro will be a new dawn.
November 8, 2024 at 3:27 pm #293405Give me Dicky Dosh over Davey No-dosh any day.
