Best of luck to him. He’ll have a competitive budget so no reason he can’t make it a success
May 3, 2024 at 7:56 pm #285314I don’t call the rumoured £700,000 playing budget competitive.
May 3, 2024 at 7:59 pm #285315Butler’s got the nod.
Is he taking medication for it?
May 3, 2024 at 7:59 pm #285316I have a funny feeling Butterfield will become first team coach, taking Butler’s previous role. The assistant will be the important choice. Michael Nelson back as no 2 ?

Really? I wonder how many others in this League would turn their noses up at that budget. I don’t know what you would call competitive .. maybe top 6 or top 8 budget. I would hazard a guess that we are hitting that mark.
May 3, 2024 at 8:04 pm #285319May 3, 2024 at 8:06 pm #285320IMO .. a brilliant fiscal appointment by the BOVD.. well done Michelle n co,

If I start a rumour that the playing budget is £1.5 million will that satisfy you?

May 3, 2024 at 8:23 pm #285327Good luck Andy on being appointed our manager, you have my full support as would anyone appointed into the position. Make good your claims of us being the fittest team in the league it was soul destroying watching part time teams looking far fitter and more committed than we were last season. I know fitness alone does not win football matches but it does help.

Completely agree with this and I’m sure as Andy Butler mentioned it he saw it as an issue.

May 3, 2024 at 9:03 pm #285329what is with people’s obsession with Nelson lol.
Where the average attendance is 1,000, 700k will be more than competitive
Michelle certainly favours continuity and people who have been here previously. Nelson did well last time and knows the club. The suggestion isn’t crazy by any means. Butterfield could quite easily become assistant.
May 3, 2024 at 9:25 pm #285332New gaffer talking a good game on Hullberside. Interesting references to being fitter, having the right mentality and player development.
The main 3 things the previous regime didn’t do effectively.
May 3, 2024 at 11:40 pm #285338Good luck to him,I’ll give him time that I wouldn’t give to wrong uns from Hilton’s army of “”:;:_£’
May 4, 2024 at 1:16 am #285345and player development
Poulter might get a sniff now. Too good of a finisher not to get a chance.

Must be his 23% games won record.

Michelle favours continuity. Nelson knows the club, including Butler and did well last time with what little he had. Not beyond the realms of possibility as we’ve just signed Butler as manager.
May 4, 2024 at 3:50 pm #285370Nelson is not going to come here for a 1 year assistant manager gig so debate is irrelevant.
Butler will likely do what 90% of new managers do and bring in one of his mates. New managers like to be sure of 1 friendly face in the changing room.

‘My thoughts on the butler appointment.
I think it makes good sense for a lot of reasons:
He knows the squad and players, and with a lot of players out of contract he will know who he wants to keep or get rid of, a manager from outside of the club wouldn’t have his depth of knowledge on this subject.
He deserves to be given a chance, a young passionate manager who has been brilliant for the club and is well positioned to be given a chance.
Financially it also makes sense. Reality is with Dean, assistant manager, fitness coach, butler, musslewhite, Stanton and turnbull we were way too top heavy for a nln club, so this decision helps ease the financial burden the club has.
I have shared two of the most ridiculous things I’ve ever read on this page (and I’ve read a lot)
The first calling giving butler the job as shocking which is a blatantly ridiculous thing to say so does not need an explanation.
The second one is some moron calling it a ‘lazy’ appointment.
Firstly for a lot of people it’s an appointment which fits very well, but SECONDLY for ANYONE to have the audacity to label our board as lazy is beyond me. The people who saved the club, got us our ground back and have worked tirelessly to reduce the clubs debt.
VERY good job they weren’t feeling ‘lazy’ when it came to saving the club!!!!!!!’
May 5, 2024 at 6:01 pm #285429I would bet that he is also an Iron fan, he has been about long enough. So come on young sir. Let’s have some passion moving forwards, and keep any future drama out of the dressing room.

Lies, damned lies & statistics – Nelson’s record was a considerable improvement from where we had been.
May 9, 2024 at 11:21 am #285555Rather than just a shoe in manager I would have liked our owner to have followed along the lines of the Hull owner and gone for someone who plays a more attacking game, maybe she has but it wouldn’t go amiss to give us a vision for what she does want football wise and the club, unless I’ve missed it.
May 9, 2024 at 12:04 pm #285556Might get an insight in to that when she appears on the Iron’s premier podcast, the Iron Bru podcast, this week?
May 9, 2024 at 12:38 pm #285559Will she have the retained list with her?

May 9, 2024 at 1:50 pm #285565Hope the podcast does address this question – would be a useful insight into the medium long term planning
May 9, 2024 at 2:15 pm #285566Well, we’ve all got our own ideas but I’ll have a crack.
Contracted – Whitehall, Kelly, Fitzsimons, Kouogan, Roberts and Law.
Kelly to go.
If we can afford – Ogle, Butterfield, Evans, Denton, Beestin, Scales
Should be cheap enough – Boyce, Barrows, Pugh, Shrimpton, DSF, McAlinden, Leesley
Release – Clunan, Elliott, Bennett, Wilson
Sign – Corbett, Blackett, Buckley-Ricketts, Keeper for bench.May 9, 2024 at 3:30 pm #285567There’s two main issues where Elliott is concerned: 1) Obviously enough – how much? and 2) Will/would he be played in a team designed to create scoring chances?
Interspersed into these thoughts, we may wonder about playing both strikers together.
Played as he was last season – it would be both expensive and nonsensical to keep him.1 user thanked author for this post.
May 9, 2024 at 3:38 pm #285568Will she have the retained list with her?
No idea. You’d be best asking SST about that! Suppose if you tune in you’ll find out?
‘tune-in’ doesn’t really work anymore now we’ve moved on from transistor radios, I suppose.

It is a statistic, but not a lie or a damned lie. A statistic across all the clubs he has managed.
