May 3, 2024 at 3:43 pm #285267Some might be underwhelmed but I think it’s another sensible and pragmatic decision by the board. Money is obviously tight so this appointment keeps some continuity and also means quick decisions can be made around which players we try to keep hold of and which are let go.
I also genuinely believe that 600+ games as a professional in the football league commands a lot of respect from players at this level, possibly more than that afforded to someone like Jimmy who’s spent most of his career much lower down.
Hopefully he’s also learnt a thing or two about winning football games, I guess time will tell.

May 3, 2024 at 3:45 pm #285268I don’t think he’ll be worse. We shall see.
May 3, 2024 at 3:48 pm #285270Wish Andy Butler all the best and hopefully he’s learnt absolutely nothing on how to set up from this last season or two. Just do the opposite Andy.
Slightly underwhelming yes. Any worse hopefully not.
Jacob butterfield no.2 would be a complement.3 users thanked author for this post.

Correct staff as he stated is priority.A decent number 2. generally makes a huge difference too.
Excited I’m not overly But! Nor would we have been if JD had been given the gig for longer.

May 3, 2024 at 4:39 pm #285280Let’s look at the advantages: financially a good move for the Club, a manager with experience, a man whom we know and who knows the Club and a chap who speaks confidently and intelligently. He deserves supporters’ backing.

May 3, 2024 at 4:48 pm #285284May 3, 2024 at 5:00 pm #285285Well, plenty to lose if we go backwards! And the reason he might not succeed is lack of money and lack of experience, except with the ladies, apparently. But, at least he speaks nicely.

Passion and he’s a nice guy were the most common reasons for sticking with Jimmy.
May 3, 2024 at 5:25 pm #285293At least his surname isn’t Dawson!

Guess his appointment won’t impress those spoilt premier league watchers Gurn
May 3, 2024 at 6:02 pm #285305Was expecting an outsider, but the positives.
He knows the club
He knows the players
He’s been a manager before
He will have learnt under Russ at Farsley and whoever at DonnyGreat player for us, Walsall and them up the A18. That Rushden game where he nearly got his hat trick!
All the best Andy.

May 3, 2024 at 6:07 pm #285306It’s a risk, but any managerial appointment would be. All managers have to start somewhere and given the context, we were unlikely to get an experienced manager from above, like Ardley or Sheridan, whatever you think of them. It would have been someone like this or another manager with non-league jobs on their CV. The alternative was to stick with someone with many known faults that made him not good enough, in my opinion.

May 3, 2024 at 6:59 pm #285311Dean wasn’t given that slack of “All managers have to start somewhere” he had started somewhere and achieved numerous promotions. Just like Dean he needs to get us up at the first attempt.
He knows the club! Knows the team can’t play in front of big crowds.
He knows the players! Knows they didn’t put enough effort in week after week.
He’s Been a manager before! Win rate of 22% would be incredibly difficult not to improve that.
He’ll have learnt under Russ at Farsley! Frightening thought.1 user thanked author for this post.
May 3, 2024 at 7:15 pm #285312No, Dean wasn’t given the excuse of having to start somewhere after a year and 4-5 months, as opposed to Butler’s 2 months as an interim coach at a team in freefall at the time, because that’s not a good comparison.
