As much as we need the squad improving, I don’t think we can trust Butler and Turnbull to do it though so probably best left alone no point throwing good money after bad.

Just listened to the AB post match interview it all sounded very similar to previous so cant see how things are improving or we are learning. Most interestingly he made a comment that until the 70th minute then we got more into it going forward isnt that when we changed to 442 ? it really is that simple anf there is your proof Andy so bite the bullet and change or its all gonna go pear shaped.

Makes the decision to extend his contract even more ludicrous.

He needs to change the formation, set up amd starting eleven but the squad isn’t big enough and lacks quality. Hopefully some decent new faces are incoming but he didn’t sound confident. Something needs to change though, quick.

Odd last night, we appeared to go to 4-4-2 then sort of disintegrate into an unrecognisable mess after apromising few minutes

Suggests they haven’t actually worked on a Plan B.

Tend to agree, they had a full summer and failed to identify a single player that’s an improvement on what we already had. Giving Butler and Turnbull any more of our limited resources would be like pissing in the wind at this point.

I have tried to be balanced regarding Butler, but he really isn’t making it easy for himself. There’s no way a professional outfit should be so open and out of sorts when defending as we were yesterday for those conceded goals. Too early for Butler out, Butler needs to get a grip fast.

Not just yesterday. Southport goals were a clown show too.

Joking aside RB this topic is gathering pace now. Another 8 games since my opening thread and things aren’t getting any better.
Vote on tuther side has got more wanting Butler out than in and you can bet a few of the ins will be cods or other team fans having a laugh.

    He’s still here.
    Performances are crap.
    Yet we’re still 3rd.
    He’s entrenched.

IMO regardless of results AB n his wingman Scoff wont be going anywhere this season so automatic promotion is almost certainly out the window ..playoffs a distinct possibility but whilst going up via that route could turn out to be nasty after the dust settles and in a NL relegation fight ala Boston.
KLT was a freak performance , been crap for months yet managed some how to stay in touch at the top and nothing will change whilst we are there or there abouts.

Lack of activity in the transfer market more so loan players is strange when apparently there is money there if needed yet i agree with AWG there is money to employ another back room staff member who we could get through this season without as managed so far.

the club could well find its self in a right pickle come the end of season .. in NLN , change manager and a raft of players out the door including Roberts who by the way was absolutely average at RO.

Im sure Dec Howe would have put away a couple of those chances eh Rene ?? .. in fact having watched it i could of scored the Beck miss (great meme vid on the SUFC official FB page)

Not easy being a Scunny fan but we soldier on regardless.

Surely Dec Howe must be on the radar of the likes of Grimsby, Lincoln, York, Doncaster, Rotherham, Barnsley, Harrogate?

Maybe the players were protecting their own interest yesterday – their health fitness & safety… not feeling ‘comfortable’ playing on a synthetic surface at zero degrees Celsius?

Tend to agree IFA, we’re stuck with the current incumbent until the seasons end now. We’ve had opportunities to part ways after some dire performances, but it’s clear the board are going to ride or die with Butler until the summer, most likely to avoid a pay off. Michelle has mentioned on more than one occasion, ‘clauses in the contract that protect the club’. With the clear objective given to Butler that promotion is a must, presumably if we fail to achieve promotion we will be able to get rid without having to pay him up for year 2. The price of that though is another year in the dreaded NLN.

It’s a post-Christmas miracle we are still within touching distance of top, but the standard of football we’ve seen this season and the lack of any consistency, we’de be low hanging fruit in NL. I intermittently flicked over to a handful of NL games whilst watching our Boxing Day game and we are not even close to being able to compete at the level above under Butlers guiding hand, with our best players set to depart in the summer and a recruitment strategy that Stevie Wonder could markedly improve. If pigs do indeed fly and we get promoted we would just be another Boston in NL next year.

Nice to see you back posting 414 hope you a had a safe n happy New Year ..

I reckon your first paragraph holds some water re the club having something in the contract clause to off load AB n Scoff at a certain point ..seasons end either after playoffs or before if we finish lower than 7th.
Im still predicting no way automatic promotion with such inconsistent form but a 7th finish may see us squeak into the playoffs…( more likely 8th 9th 10th IMO )
Its all very tight and lots of other teams in the mix with no run away team like Tamworth .. beware the likes of Darlo , Buxton etc nickin a playoff spot.

Oh aye, it’s always nice to see a member back with the usual Uber negativity as soon as a poor performance or result comes round. When things are going well, nothing to say, jack s***, nada. Just took a few days longer than usual. On here anyway. Predictable and tediously boring IMO.

Cheers and same to you IFA. It was a busy Christmas in 414 house with kids their families round and a post-NY overseas trip to see my daughter. I did pop my head in only to find majority of the conversation around Maw vs Ellis, slagging off of Iron Hour, Jerry, Earl and so on, so I quickly retreated back to my sun lounger with a cold pint. Same reason I avoid participating on the FB page.
Agree with your 7th-10th prediction, it’s extremely tight and plenty with games still in hand.

Going well? Good to see you’re still easily pleased Deerey. For a lot of us it’s going to take more than a 45 minutes of good football per 20 odd games to be convinced after the utter dross we’ve seen for majority of this season.

The seven unbeaten run is a good PR spin, but not exactly the achievement it’s being hailed as:-
A 0-0 draw at home to Alfreton, one of the worst games seen by many at GP.
A 0-0 draw at home to Hereford, subpar and painfully dull.
Another 0-0 bore draw against part time Darlington.
A piss poor performance and skin of the teeth last minute 2-1 win to the league whipping boys Marine, by an arguably undeserved penalty.

The reality is; there was only one acceptable performance in those 7 games. But after some of the horror shows we’ve seen this season (Rylands, Alfreton, Guisley to name but a few) the bar has been set so low that anything better than ‘utterly shite’ is now deemed an ‘improvement’ even if we’re still very poor.

Now thats called hitting the nail on the head … this 7 game unbeaten run sound bite being rolled is out of prospective as for the most part the football served up has been dire dull and at best mediocre EXCEPT KLT , its head shaking just how we are still in touch around the top possibly a tad false with others games in hand etc.

Some of you naysayers and doom and gloomers don’t half twist the truth. Perhaps you’ve got soap in your eyes from all those paid sessions lad. I said ‘when things
are going well’. Or are you saying there have been no periods this season when things have been going well?

Speaks volumes you don’t understand why we’re still near the top. It’s a shite league with players who are incredibly inconsistent in most teams. This is the life.

The fact that The Iron is playing ‘dross’ football is proof that we are in the right league. I won’t say we deserve to be in this league. As we were continually screwed by two wrong uns, who bought the club and run it well into the ground. But these players and this manager are where they deserve to be. We need a better manager and better players to get out of it. UTI

I’m not convinced we need any more improvements, this squad is more than capable than winning the league.

The manager is up for debate.

I’m not convinced we need any more improvements, this squad is more than capable than winning the league.

We have the quality, but lack the numbers, A.K.A Squad Depth. Up front we have the Fish “ok squad player”. Beck is awful and we have Whitehall who’s our only real striker of quality. In my opinion we need two able strikers to come in.

We lack options out wide too. Still need to sign a wide player who can cover both sides of the pitch to add competition. A big ask to win the league with one proven striker. We started this season with only one RB.

I will however state though that Butler is nowhere near good enough and never will be. Clear to see we need a new manager. If I was Michelle I would cash in those shares to make some money and get that pumped into the club for players. I would however do that next season when Butler is hopefully turfed out.

She could put some of that money into the pitch and not skimp out on it again. That shit pile is dangerous.

Dont think you get how things work WG, if she sold her shares she wouldn’t be a board member, and would hardly likely to put the money back into the club.

I don’t believe Michelle skimped on the pitch but I do believe she was let down by a company who failed to do a professional job, it’s a bad situation with the pitch in it’s current state but it won’t be repeated next season.
