August 30, 2024 at 10:21 pm #290316It wasn’t unfair he wasn’t very good at all till the final run in.
This season he’s doing more than well its like signing a new player the boy doing good, great hold up play first half to put roberts in, and took his goal really well .2 users thanked author for this post.
August 30, 2024 at 10:40 pm #290318It shows what better fitness can do, Alfie has always had ability but his work rate is a revelation and he looks really sharp in his new role. Took a knock tonight and had to come off but I believe his improved fitness will help his recovery a lot quicker than in previous times.
August 30, 2024 at 11:24 pm #290323Longest serving player on the books. Respect!
August 30, 2024 at 11:29 pm #290324My suspicions about Scales have now been laid aside. I am truly beginning to see the player he can and should be.
Whitehall my MOTM.
SO much to like; so much calmness; so much intelligence; so much professionalism.
No dropping back to ‘protect’ a 1-0 lead.
Yes, Andy. More of the same, please.2 users thanked author for this post.
August 31, 2024 at 3:14 am #290328Beestin looks like a natural striker to me. Butler did say he was a natural striker and was unsure, but it’s definitely looking that way.
August 31, 2024 at 7:41 am #290330I would’ve been the first to post “square pegs, round holes” if he failed in that position- didn’t think it would work.
Humble pie is on the menu.

September 5, 2024 at 3:13 pm #290537Did he want to play for Dean?
September 5, 2024 at 3:59 pm #290538You’d have to ask him that. Knows his body better apparently.
September 5, 2024 at 4:00 pm #290539Not Dean’s body, obviously.
September 5, 2024 at 4:06 pm #290540Barrows beats Ogle in terms of effectiveness.
In the 60s and 70s there was a diminutive player, who sadly died tragically young, called Trevor Hockey who played in CM for a multitude of clubs.
He used to receive oodles of praise for running around the pitch a lot – especially when he played for the Blades.
Work rate off the scale: effectiveness deeply limited.
No disrespect to the departed but watching his achievements on the pitch – I was always profoundly baffled by the surfeit of positives he ‘earned’.
Gotta say that, more than a few times, I’ve watched Ogle and had very similar feelings half a century apart.September 5, 2024 at 5:23 pm #290544Liking Barrows a lot this season. Just a thought – as good a player as Ogle is – was part of his appeal to do with mullet wigs and affability?
September 5, 2024 at 5:54 pm #290546And his marauding high speed runs down the right wing. Mullet flowing they started off exciting the crowd until we all realised it inevitably would end with a misplaced shot/cross or a pass to someone in a different coloured shirt.
September 5, 2024 at 8:04 pm #290551Ogle’s forward runs were definitely a strength but too often he ran into traffic and didn’t provide a decisive cross/pass. I’d be interested to know if Iron Stats has the numbers on how many assists/goals he provided in his time here.

Quite possibly it was, but there’s nothing wrong with that I reckon, Scunny fans have been starved of any sort of totemic player for so many years.

One assist and one goal in two seasons. A very poor return considering how many times he bombed forward a game.
September 7, 2024 at 11:50 am #290566That stat puts things into some perspective.
September 7, 2024 at 12:48 pm #290567Nah not having that it’s just a stat, Ogle player of the season 22/23 got the awards to prove it stats or no stats.
Same with Butterfield his quality devalued by many, they both didn’t leave the club by any chance did they.September 7, 2024 at 12:50 pm #290568Player of the season in a dismal year where so many didn’t play well or try, though this isn’t to disparage. He obviously had qualities in his effort and ability to run forward with the ball. Last season he was sometimes one of the few who would I am not meaning to say this shows he was actually rubbish, but it shows he had weaknesses and wasn’t irreplaceable.

September 7, 2024 at 1:46 pm #290570Sixerite – Alfie Beestins fitness problems were put down to recurring bouts of Covid, although it was not recorded as Long Covid. He was more susceptible but the bouts reduced which allowed him a proper pre-season with a bit extra added for him to help.
September 7, 2024 at 2:58 pm #290573Pretty sure he was talking about Ogle

September 7, 2024 at 5:38 pm #290592September 7, 2024 at 5:53 pm #290596Completely agree and in that dismal season 2 years ago that was something, given so many didn’t seem to bother. He gave fans something to hold on to then and wasn’t a bad player at all.

September 8, 2024 at 2:26 pm #290623Ogle was annoying at times as he would leave his marker resulting in goals but I’d probably still have him over Barrows
His pace was always a weapon in attack and defence, with how unfit the team were last season compared to this season would Ogle benefit from his teammates? Of course he would!

September 8, 2024 at 4:08 pm #290626Ogle was a better defender than barrows in my opinion.
It proved my point yesterday as that ball should have never made the penalty box.
Poor defending all round to score from that close but player shouldn’t have got a cross over. -
