Looks like it’s going ahead.
4 trialists according to Cox 2 centre mid a winger and a striker.
2 will start who have been here a while (presumably one of those is Bunn) and 2 came in yesterday who will get half an hour.
Anyone going who can try to catch names or identify them?
July 19, 2021 at 7:31 pm #210600Andy Carroll is the wrong side of 30, on a free and injury prone.
July 19, 2021 at 7:43 pm #210603Probably wouldn’t survive on a bag of toffees a week.
July 19, 2021 at 7:44 pm #210604He was also Newcastle’s second highest earner last year after Jolinton!

July 19, 2021 at 8:48 pm #210607I don’t think you can take chairmen on trial?

July 19, 2021 at 8:57 pm #210608According to smudger the GK to come in will be on loan. Already agree but still away with his club, whoever he is. There is another loan player who’s agreed to come in as well.
The 4 loan players, Bunn will obviously be the wide player but god knows who the others are.
July 19, 2021 at 9:29 pm #210609There was talk on Twitter a couple of weeks ago a striker from Cheltenham was training with us but can’t remember the name, but he could be one sent packing.

Never seen him have a good game at Glanford Park though!
July 20, 2021 at 8:20 pm #2106591-1 at HT. Taft (15)
July 20, 2021 at 8:30 pm #210660Trialist A impressive.
B not so much so far.
2 up front though which is a bit of a novelty.
July 20, 2021 at 8:35 pm #210661Forgot to mention. Trialist A is Bunn I assume. No idea who B is.
July 20, 2021 at 8:48 pm #210664Told you that Trialist B was good.
July 20, 2021 at 9:22 pm #210665Is Bunn playing up front or on the wing?
July 20, 2021 at 9:24 pm #210666“There’s only one trialist B – one trialist beee-ee!”
But how come trialist A played for both sides?
July 20, 2021 at 9:25 pm #2106672-1 Iron FT.
Trialist B with the winner.
July 20, 2021 at 10:12 pm #210670Bunn played wide right in the first half. Looked lively and put in some good crosses including the one for Tafts goal.
After a good 30 minutes Burton started to dominate the ball for the rest of the first half.
Bunn played more centrally (midfield) in the second half and was not as effective but helped Kenyon and Beeston get the midfield back. Kenyon looks an upgrade on Spence on that showing. More forward intent and braver passes. Of course it was only an early pre season friendly. Trialist B worked very hard and took is chance well when it came.
Loft worked hard as usual and put in a cracking air shot when his best chance came.
Young lads came on after 65 mins. All 11 for us changed and 5 or 6 in 2 hits for them and the game petered out although all the young lads did well.
Borthwick Jackson came on at half time for them and still hasn’t found his level yet. Still got a way downward to go – maybe the Cods next.

July 20, 2021 at 11:51 pm #210672Bunn did look good. I’d be offering him a contract tomorrow I think.
The trialist striker looked pretty young but I was fairly impressed that he kept on the shoulder of defenders and made runs beyond them. So many times last season we just had players standing still, wanting the ball to their feet. I’d give him another game at the weekend but feel like he’d be a decent squad player as opposed to starting every week.
Pugh impressed me with his work rate, especially in this heat!
Manny was solid and will be a massive fans favourite if he stays fit, I really hope so.
Main worry is upfront, Loft looked lively but such poor finishing in both halves.
Overall I was pleasantly surprised.
July 21, 2021 at 12:04 am #210673Must be honest went determined to criticise but was pleasantly surprised that I couldn’t. Only a preseason and will wait and see but not all doom and gloom —- yet.
July 21, 2021 at 1:26 am #210675I quite like Loft personally. Quite cumbersome at times but with good service I think he’ll be good for around 12-15goals a season.
To be fair how he scored the goals he did last season in that side is a minor miracle. Plenty of improvement in him I think.
Fair few people said Bunn was the best player on the pitch for 50/60 minutes. We need to sign him sharpish on a 2yr deal if we’re able to.
July 21, 2021 at 8:06 am #2106772 players isolating.
One must surely be Hallam as he’d have featured automatically – unless … he’s … No. I can’t say it!
Millen?Tunan, Jarvis and Hippo? – Not even a trot around the pitch? – Carrying knocks?
Have I missed anyone?

It said 2 tested positive for COVID and 3 were isolating because of contact with them so I’d guess they are the 5.

July 21, 2021 at 8:36 am #210679Quite enjoyed the game last night some good passages of play. I know it was only a friendly but some encouraging signs. For me the defence is sorted with Millen most likely coming back in for Pugh.
Thought bunn had a very good game, need to get him signed. Kenyon reminds me of dawson, good organiser and always encouraging.
Just need another CM, wide players and couple of strikers to help loft out.

July 21, 2021 at 8:46 am #210680And a keeper!
How did the custodians play btw?
July 21, 2021 at 9:02 am #210683Collins very good with ball at feet. Kicking very good. Not a vocal keeper though my only worry. Watson probably the better shot stopper but not as good with the ball at his feet
July 21, 2021 at 9:24 am #210686A couple of observations:-
Nice to see us play two up front, hope it lasts.
If the starting 11 was Cox’s ” best available” it would seem Pugh has overtaken Rowe as second choice behind Millen and Collins before Watson. Surely that can only be as back up though?July 21, 2021 at 10:17 am #210690Pugh tends to be a CM, I thought.
July 21, 2021 at 10:38 am #210691Borthwick Jackson came on at half time for them and still hasn’t found his level yet. Still got a way downward to go – maybe the Cods next.
I think he was at Oldham last season, so he’s on the way back up if he’s found his way to Burton?
July 21, 2021 at 10:40 am #210692I thought Pugh was a midfielder as well. Played well at right back both with and without the ball. Didn’t let himself be rushed like a lot of the young lads that came on later did (understandably given lack of experience).
Would like to see him get some time in midfield when Millen is available.
Rowe came on as centre back as I believe he did against Barton. I think that’s maybe where they see him long term. Played OK there when he came on.
Agree with Cass. It was great to see 2 up front.
Only a friendly but a better watch than 80% of games last season.

You’re right les, but so was Hornshaw and where were all his league starts? No wonder few of our youngsters make the transition to league football when we change their position for them at 19.
