A long way to go but a couple of positive initiatives coming from the club.

On what would have been his 73rd birthday, Scunthorpe United can announce details of a bespoke goalkeeper kit to be worn in honour of legendary goalkeeper Ray Clemence MBE this season. The shirt has been produced by Macron and will be worn as the Iron’s first choice goalkeeper kit for the duration of the 2021/22 season.

We’re looking to feature local bands and musicians on some of the videos we produce this season. If interested in providing your music for these, please send an email to theiron@scunthorpe-united.co.uk.

Hopefully further fan engagement to follow but well done for these.

Sorry for the negativity but these two initiatives sound like one bright spark’s ideas to ‘come up with a few things we can promote to appease the whingeing gits – something quick and easy and that doesn’t require too much resourcing’.

I think it will take a lot more actual committed engagement to re-engage disenfranchised fans, but agree CT, it’s a start and hopefully more to come.

Live podcast with Swanny this Friday at 7:00pm, so send in all those awkward questions for him not to answer.

Some REAL things that could be done to re-engage with fans:

    1. Pre-Season open weekend, fair ground rides, invite local junior football teams for a mini tournament played on the GP pitch, training sessions with some of the 1st team squad and made up with juniors on the training pitch, a farmers market and continental food stalls, Police Dog display team, emergency service vehicles on display, classic car club display, selection of 1st team players attending to sign autographs and chat with fans, invite local bands down to provide live entertainment, have the club shop stocked to the rafters with latest kits and training wear, invite local radio down, prize draw for a pair of season tickets etc…etc…

    2. Sort the toilets in all stands so the fans don’t have to stand in an inch of piss when they go to the toilets.

    3. Stock match day catering outlets with decent locally sourced food and plenty of it so we don’t sell out 20mins before kick off.

    4. Proper Q&A sessions on a regular basis with the club owners where the questions are not hand picked

Just a few ideas off the top of my head!

And not one of which will be used by the club.

    How do I know this?

    Meh.

Very disillusioned with everything that’s been going on the past few years but I’m a glutton for punishment so will be making the 420 mile round trip tomorrow…and actually looking forward to it. I’m sure I’ll be regretting the decision when we’re 2-0 down within 30 minutes.

That’s the spirit BLT I admire your enthusiasm, I’m very much of a similar opinion to yourself but thankfully my round trip is a mere 7 miles. Makes losing a bit more bearable as good home made grub and copious amounts of alcohol are close at hand.

I will not be making the 8.4 mile return trip.

Any ideas people suggest are totally ignored, why – because someone doesn’t like it if people are proved right !!
