Some might perceive it as snobbery Siderite; I’m past giving a damn. There’s a direct correlation between low reading ages, Sun readers and voting habits. Just a fact. Yes many of his supporters bought his style so basically trying to talk any sense to them is pointless. If your face or personality doesn’t fit with them then forget it. I’m not going to lie and say I don’t think such people are fools, to put it mildly.
July 8, 2022 at 6:42 pm #240217Plenty of clever people have fallen for nonsense when it suits them. :-)
We might not like their choices, some of it may be ill informed, but they are the voting public. To win them over we need to be empathetic to their concerns, without being swayed to unjustified positions.
July 8, 2022 at 7:55 pm #240224Appreciate what you’re saying Siderite and I think you’re right to an extent but I’m not in the habit, in a paid or voluntary capacity to canvas or lobby the voting public to ‘try and win them over’. That’s for those that are in those positions. This is merely a non footy forum viewed by a relatively small amount pf people. Many on here think I’m a patronising t*** anyway (they’ve said so) but I’m not here to make long lasting deep friendships. What is it we keep hearing over the last few days? The public now want honesty and integrity. Well, I’m just falling in line here!
I’ve got a big beef with prominent people like Grayson Perry and Russell Brand, who make programmes and narcissistic YouTube shows that basically kowtow to pretty horrible people because apparently we should ‘understand their concerns and compromise’. There’s too much of that going on as far as I’m concerned. It’s edging towards legitimising hatred and bigotry in my opinion and I’ve little appetite for it. I understand and respect the point you’re making but beg to differ.
July 8, 2022 at 8:25 pm #240229Here’s some philosophical questions Siderite – do you think attitudes like mine are not helping matters? If yes, and I changed my attitude to be more accommodating to folk with right wing views and swinging voters who go for personality, would that help matters?
July 8, 2022 at 9:00 pm #240236Meanwhile, here’s the new Education Minister entering Downing Street 🤣

I tend to agree with your point about not giving a damn on here, DM, but those who are door-knocking and making speeches can’t afford to be so blunt, even if they’d like to be, if they want to win over those near brain-dead 8-year old readers who cheer on the Tories while they themselves become ever more dependent on the state, can’t afford a house, live off foodbanks, live less time than their parents, and whose lives become ever more precarious.
It’s a bit like Stockholm syndrome.
They need to ask themselves one question – what/who has made them like this?

It would stop them being able to argue that Labour supporters are patronising and elitist towards the voter base, yes.
While it’s less important for you, this kind of attitude is displayed by Labour activists, at times, and that is worrying.
July 9, 2022 at 12:55 pm #240257They’ll say Labour supporters are patronising and elitist anyway. Indeed some are, some may well think I am, but a lot of it’s generated by the political and media right. But I agree, if you’re a Labour politician or activist you need to pretend you’re interested in hearing their bigoted stoneage views. Until you get caught out like Gordon Brown of course. Anyways, different approaches and attitudes to tackling the same problem maybe?
July 19, 2022 at 12:37 pm #240909What’s all this bollocks, from the likes of Sir Edward Leigh, that Keir Starmer disgraced himself by not being magnanimous to poor old Boris as he steps down?
When has Boris ever reciprocated? Have they forgotten that he’s not some wonderful statesmen stepping down out of good will? He had to be dragged out of the position after many scandals involving lying. He has previously directed false jibes at Starmer over Saville, and his allies expect Starmer to be kind? It’s pitiful.
The right love lecturing on how the left must be civil towards them, to understand why they arrive at their positions, and not call them nasty Tories. Fair. However, they do love hurling abuse at leftists, accusing them of being wretched, but expect civility in return. They love to shout “get over it, snowflake” when they lambast the left with bullish language, but when the left respond, they’re crying at how mean the left is.

July 19, 2022 at 2:57 pm #240911Just one? 🤣
July 19, 2022 at 10:31 pm #240952Don’t remember Boris apologizing to Sir Keir Starmer after calling him Sir Beer Korma in Parliament, then Starmer being cleared of all wrong doing in the matter of breaking COVID rules, unlike Johnson after being caught breaking his own COVID rules and being fined. The Tories believe they are untouchable when it comes to so many areas in life, they truly are an appalling patronising bunch.
