Cox has to play the team he finished with apart from Clark for next Saturday
February 23, 2021 at 9:46 pm #202689Hmmmm.
Back to square one, then?
Playoffs, anyone?Swann out!
February 23, 2021 at 9:56 pm #202690Cox just said on the radio not including tonight out of the 10 penalties given against us the official reviews have said only 4 were correct, just checked the results and penalties have cost us 10 points this season how can it keep happening?
February 23, 2021 at 10:39 pm #202691They were penalties the ref gave them. Should we decide that the players or managers arbitrate.
Also we sat back and lost. Why could we not have tried to play in their half more ?February 24, 2021 at 12:06 am #202695We always play too defensive football, it seems thatthis has been the way ever since the Christmas when Alexander threw away promotion to the Championship when promotion was on a plate, then that 3 points from 9 matches happened when he changed our playing style, we have been like that ever since.
So why were we frightened of having a go against Bolton today, because we just sat back and let them play in our half for 90% of the first half.
February 24, 2021 at 9:20 am #202697Does anybody think that we had any intention to try and win that game? Cox moaning about dodgy penalties against, maybe if we got in the oppositions penalty area more often we might get a few ourselves!
February 24, 2021 at 12:42 pm #202701I also don’t understand the defensive mentality. The risk of relegation has reduced. The players should be confident given recent wins. The 3rd goal on Saturday was a great shot, but the 1st goal was a team goal of fast attacking first touch football. More of that play needed, we have forwards with pace.
If we had started the match like we played in the second half, the result could have been different.
February 24, 2021 at 4:49 pm #202711The reason for the defense mentality is Bolton forced it on us as they were much better than us first half
February 24, 2021 at 5:59 pm #202713The second half subs and performance showed there was intention to win the game, I just don’t think we possess the know how to break teams down effectively. I still believe our full backs are far too defensively minded- Bolton’s full backs were busting a gut to join attacks and subsequently forced 2 of our main threats in Gillead and Green, back in our half.
Last night I’d have liked to more balls played behind Bolton’s centre halves and forced them to defend facing their own goal. We make life too comfortable for opposition goalkeepers and defenders sometimes.
the positives were Kev and Mcgahey back in the side. Getting Kev back to full fitness will change the dynamic of our team for sure. However, as Heath points out, the risk of relegation has diminished so there is no excuse not to be having more of a go against sides.

That was when we were one down Cliff and I’d suggest getting back level was the extent of the ambition. I wonder if those changes would have been made at HT if the score had been 0-0?
February 25, 2021 at 12:33 pm #202738We just don’t have the quality of players to be able to keep possession of the ball for long periods of the game. We’d rather sit back and look to hit teams on the counter.
33 games this season and we’ve only had 50% or higher possession in 9 of those (27% of games).
