Whilst we ponder AB’s awful formation or barely a player that can pass to their own player a little reminiscence is needed.
Andy Stevenson as Mick pointed out with a V.
Chris Marples. Am I right in stating he got sent off on his debut? Maybe against Burnley.
November 8, 2024 at 11:16 am #293384Nigel Pepper got sent off on his home debut for us and hardly played again.
A shame because he was in that great York City “Cup Kings” team but was a dissapointment, like Gary Bull.
November 8, 2024 at 11:33 am #293386Marples chinned a player in front of the Burnley fans when we still had fences up,1st game of a loan spell.
Pepper was sent of from a stretcher after breaking his leg and punching the guy who did it
If I remember rightly the year Marples got sent off we dragged Nigel batch out of the pub at Barnetby he was running in order to play our 1st game of the season away at Gillingham ,he certainly got sent offNovember 8, 2024 at 11:33 am #293387IIRC Pepper was carried off with a serious, possibly career ending, injury.
Marples certainly sent off early, don’t remember the opposition.November 8, 2024 at 11:37 am #293388Marples chinned a player in front of the Burnley fans when we still had fences up,1st game of a loan spell.

November 8, 2024 at 11:47 am #293390I’ll always remember as a kid seeing Mike Lester come to the DRE to celebrate arms aloft after his goal against Leeds.
Somehow think he was stood atop of the wall.

November 8, 2024 at 12:03 pm #293391As we’ve had a good return on the shirts this season why not an iconic red adidas or will that go against the grain with Kelhme?

November 8, 2024 at 12:17 pm #293392What was the story on the Mighty Joe?
Didn’t he have a Harald Schumacher moment in the cup?

Or Bukta style. I’d probably buy one for old times sake. Be surprised if it came to pass though given it’s association with poorer less successful times.
November 8, 2024 at 12:37 pm #293394Joey Nees’em. And the dust up behind Tiffs. My all time favourite Iron keeper.

IIRC Pepper was carried off with a serious, possibly career ending, injury.
The Pepper incident happened in front of us close to the half way line.
It was an utter piss take that the other player completely got away with it. The ref couldn’t have been more pleased with himself dishing out ‘justice’.
November 8, 2024 at 5:03 pm #293409Stevenson got sent off at Lincoln, Gordon Hobson maybe the other player ? He slowed down into the tackle and made a right meal of it, Andy loved a tackle, he was bloody livid as I remember and it took a couple of players to persuade him off the pitch. If memory serves me right it was the game where the cops stopped the supporters coaches on the a15 on the way in and made them all late.
November 8, 2024 at 5:15 pm #293410Remember trying to get back to the car park at Lincoln.
Think it where the fair ground used to be.Anyhow there was lots of scrapping.

I had driven that day so we parked down the back of Lincoln and got in early, the cops wound the Scunny fans up on purpose as I said. Later in the match the Iron fans in the away end were singing… Sincil bank is falling down falling down and things were thrown from the stand.
I distinctly remember 2 policemen running up the stand to one of the entrance tunnels and being met full face with a fire extinguisher that some madman let off. It was like the keystone cops .1 user thanked author for this post.

Thought Steve Baines turned out to be a good referee when he took it up after finishing playing, decent centre back for us back in the John Duncan days along with Les Hunter.
November 8, 2024 at 7:41 pm #293417I remember him reffing us once when he seemed determined not to be accused of favouring a former club. He had a shocker and gave us absolutely nothing. Strangely I don’t remember the result but we must have lost or I wouldn’t have remembered how bad he was.
November 8, 2024 at 9:09 pm #293426Now not 100% sure but, I went to a Scunny football summer training.
I was with Joe Neenan and possibly a very young Paul Longden. Hmmm defo Joe.
Alan Clarke manager I think.November 8, 2024 at 9:10 pm #293427Think Tommy Graham would have done a job for us.
