Who’s fed up with tip tap “copy Man City style of football”.Even with poor players Luton have cottoned on to the idea of getting the ball in the box at every opportunity ( with thought behind it)Alfreton under Billy Heath’s Alfreton have the same style, even though they have poor players in a sense. The direct style is the only way to go,(with players who are not poor players for this league).Billy Heath’s track record ,North Ferriby being a great success,is the man to lead us to the opposite of Jimmy Dean’s mind numbing style.

February 21, 2024 at 10:14 am #281499Hoof ball can be just as tedious (John Beck’s Lincoln anyone? Any Keith Alexander team?) but there definitely needs to be some sort of balance.

February 21, 2024 at 10:49 am #281502I don’t want to resort to hoofball, but I would like to see something more direct than we’ve had. We lost the game for whatever reason at South Shields (that first goal was ridiculous), but I think we looked a little closer to some sort of balance between footballing styles during the first half.
The link-ups by McIlinden and Denton down the left were very promising, and they look like they could get into a bit of a groove and be productive. I was impressed with McIlinden – movement and a little bit more speed of thought.
We’re definitely lacking a striker, an ‘old fashioned’ fox in the box.
February 21, 2024 at 11:41 am #281508Surely a mixture of styles is the hallmark of a good side?, many commentators wax lyrical over Man City’s style of passing football and possession but when De Bruyne knocks a 50 yard through ball for a rampaging Haaland to run onto it’s still a long ball, despite it being called an exquisite pass on MOTD. I would certainly like to see a more aggressive style in midfield and balls being knocked into channels for Elliot to chase aswell as Roberts ( when fit ) intricate tricky wing play being used. As was mentioned we need more balls consistently into the box and aggression shown to get on the end of them and convert them into goals
February 21, 2024 at 11:51 am #281511There’s a big difference between a long pass & a long ball.
February 21, 2024 at 12:00 pm #281515I remember when Millwall came in the second leg of the playoff semi final and won 3-2, it was all long ball and aggressive play that won the game, Morison was a proper handful that night and his midfield service from deep provided plenty of long ball ammo.

February 21, 2024 at 12:07 pm #281516I remember 2 late goals at Millwall from Garry Hooper to win a game there, at least 1 of them was from a great long pass.
That’s the great thing about football: there’s always more than 1 way to play the game, and tactics always evolve in response to the way teams play.

There’s an even bigger difference between Erling Haaland & Danny Whitehall!
February 21, 2024 at 12:55 pm #281520Yeah, Haaland’s attitude is much better. Not much else to separate them. Am I on the right site here?
February 21, 2024 at 1:09 pm #281522I wish Whitehall would show just a quarter of Haaland aggression, bloody hell that Norwegian guy is an absolute beast, he missed a couple of easy chances by his standards last week, wonder who’s gonna get the backlash from that, he doesn’t miss many.
February 21, 2024 at 6:43 pm #281543The lower down the pyramid you go, the lesser the tactical ability and technical understanding of the players.
We ain’t got the calibre of player to emulate how Real, Barca & Citi play. -
