One for these quiet off-season days: what’s the best goal you’ve seen scored by the worst player?
My nomination is Ian Morris’ 40-yard screamer against Sheffield Wednesday. A very modest player scoring a brilliant goal.
I’m also tempted to add Jamie McCombe’s great goal in the cup against Barnsley, not because he was a bad player but because he was playing completely out of position.
Any others?
Peter Foley at Belle Vue Donny end of the 60s. (68?)
Ball crossed in around the penalty spot, he rose like a salmon (so high that he must have been dizzy) and it hammered past the GK off his forehead.
Had his moments dribbling but, as far as I recall, this was the only time I saw him head a ball.

Andy McFarlane’s 30 yarder!
Borthwick-Jackson v Charlton, one was a worldy.
Bit harsh on Perch I reckon – he wasn’t a bad player so much as over-rated, I would say? Maybe I’m being generous.
Borthwick-Jackson is a great shout, where’s he ended up now? Was he at Oldham?
Can’t remember the Andy Mac one NI has mentioned, who was that against?

To be fair he scored nearly as good a goal against us a few weeks back.
Dave Mulligan’s solitary goal for us…a Del Piero-esque free-kick fired into the top corner!
Borthwick-Jackson is available! (Unless I have missed him being snapped up after release from Oldham.)
Didn’t he go to Burton Albion?
It’s harder than you might think to come up with a good candidate because the really awful players (Ormondroyd, Henderson, etc.) never actually scored for us or, like Chris Iwelumo, the goals they did score were pretty bog-standard.
