Anyone read the Athletic? Enough Iron stories to make it’ worthwhile,?
September 9, 2023 at 8:48 am #271348I hear it’s improving, I have a feeling Iron fans will be hating, loving or claiming they’re in Swann’s pocket soon even Max might apologise to us?
September 9, 2023 at 9:42 am #271350I suspect there will be statements about how you can’t trust an ‘MSM’ outlet and how it must be based on rumours.

September 9, 2023 at 9:51 am #271351The only “rumour” is that it took so much time to come out because they wanted to be sure of their sources from a legal stand point. I expect denials and no court action, the loons will just say a denial is the truth

A millionaire might get a super injunction, a ten bob millionaire might buy a bottle of Bud and tweet lies about people to deflect.
I hope I’m right in this one, I think we’re all getting sick of the scattergun approach of certain posters in the hope something sticks1 user thanked author for this post.

Surely you’re not suggesting that you might be wrong sometimes!!!!
September 9, 2023 at 12:35 pm #271360Never,what a shocking suggestion
September 10, 2023 at 9:22 pm #271494Tomorrow , tick tock
September 10, 2023 at 9:32 pm #271496I hope that, whatever happens tomorrow, we don’t have high tensions. Probably a forlorn hope, and we will have “I told you sos” from ironeye, defenders saying the journalist must have an agenda against Hilton and pointing to his response on Facebook as gospel truth. Then there might be the burner accounts for some more abuse, slander and death threats.
September 10, 2023 at 9:58 pm #271498I just am told a story is being published on our situation

PLEASE …. Can anyone enlighten me as to WTF this is referring to ..
September 11, 2023 at 6:57 am #271508Story in the Athletic alleging Hilton has conviction for Fraud under one of his previous names.
Don’t know the detail as I don’t use paywall publications on principle.

Seems to be open to viewing.
September 11, 2023 at 7:22 am #271513Its a very long well written article. Some of it public knowledg plus a number of things that have been dismissed as nonsense on here. The biggest allegation is that he’s had 4 names, convicted of fraud and served time for it:
‘An investigation by The Athletic has found that a man we strongly believe to be Hilton was sentenced to two years in prison for 15 counts of fraud by false representation under the name of David Anderson.’
September 11, 2023 at 7:34 am #271514give us chance to read it before posting allegations ,we can only moderate with what we know as facts I don’t have access and Matt is in bed probably ,I would add that we were right to delete allegation previously even if this article makes them, we don’t have the legal team the athletic have so you “told you so ” posts mean nothing to us

September 11, 2023 at 7:52 am #271515The Athletic wouldn’t make an allegation without any kind of evidence, because it could lead to a libel accusation. Hilton will likely respond with accusations against the journalist and deny vociferously, but if it’s untrue he needs to take it to court. Regardless, this does nothing to counter my concerns about him at all and am worried about such a character owning the club. Name changes for personal reasons was always a questionable reason.

September 11, 2023 at 7:56 am #271516I can say we’ve been aware of this article for some time and it’s been with their legal team which delayed it,which was why we kept deleting posts
September 11, 2023 at 8:23 am #271518I can add that the majority of Iron Bystanders posts were not deleted as they contained nothing potentially libelous. He just presented facts but got a lot of grief in the process. The allegations in the The Athletic will ñot be new news for many.
September 11, 2023 at 8:24 am #271519A very detailed and revealing investigation by @TheAthleticFC into Scunthorpe’s new owner David Hilton/White/Anderson/Mellors who allegedly was previously convicted of fraud.
The FA are looking into the serious allegations. https://t.co/M9etqhZWCq #UTI

I suspect many will dismiss this piece as mere rumour. Hilton will make a denial and we’ll be told to accept that or we’re not true fans.
September 11, 2023 at 9:06 am #271523I think some supporters who have received the worst abuse and harassment across social media for raising concerns deserve some apologies. Past caring what the club owner thinks and says a long time ago.
September 11, 2023 at 9:09 am #271524From what I understand the story had to be pushed in front of a team of lawyers at The Athletic before they could post it. Given that it has finally been posted one has to assume that the legal team at The Athletic are comfortable enough with the evidence linking the various identities (Anderson, White, Hilton).
Although I am not surprised, I am most definitely alarmed about the whole situation. I will be interested to read David Hilton’s response. If what The Athletic have posted is false, then surely, David Hilton will begin litigation proceedings against the author and publisher of article, and if not, his actions would likely be seen as confirming the article as correct.
Whatever happens, between the abandoned match ruling and this article, we have an interesting week ahead!
September 11, 2023 at 9:18 am #271530Daz, that’s correct, so I’d say we can allow points on there to be discussed openly now in good faith and the knowledge that some strong legal minds have backed it up

September 11, 2023 at 9:43 am #271532I also suspect that a certain facebook group will be going into full meltdown too.

September 11, 2023 at 10:00 am #271534Nothing particularly new in there other than another name I hadn’t heard of before. The big difference is having what were once rumours backed up by a major publication.
Personally, my biggest concern in the whole piece is the bit about confirmation of funds. Given what we’ve seen in the last 10 years and given the quality of the current squad, that’s my biggest worry.

September 11, 2023 at 10:23 am #271535the biggest fears should be about funds, cash flow, the reputation with supporters, stakeholders and sponsors, and moreover the claim that the allegations are being investigated by the FA, with the potential for serious ramifications if proven.
September 11, 2023 at 10:42 am #271537Bloody ell that was some read … not read that much since i was in Borstal
September 11, 2023 at 10:43 am #271538We should be very worried about Hilton. His lack of transparency has been obvious from the start and his tardiness in responding to HMRC, Co. House, wages, pensions etc continues to raise alarm bells.
The vast majority of Iron fans were so pleased to see the back of Swann that they have been blinkered with his successor. Out of the frying pan and into the fire springs to mind.
In my opinion Hilton is juggling many balls to try and improve our Club. Sadly, if one ball is dropped it will cause every ball to fall. He is, very obviously from his previous business ventures, not that clever a man. I will continue to expect this man to fail. God help our Club.
September 11, 2023 at 10:46 am #271540“and his tardiness ” and to the courts 22 days late
September 11, 2023 at 11:03 am #271541I was out on my early morning run this morning and my ‘works’ phone was going berserk. I had to pause just to check that a major incident hadn’t been declared.
Now that some of this is out in the open, some serious questions should be asked of Peter Swann, his advisors and the Football Association.
