This is one of the most tragic signings I have ever seen at the Iron.

Can’t head, can’t shoot, can’t tackle, can’t stay on his feet.

He has taken us backwards not forwards and somebody thinks it’s perfectly fine to play your top goalscorer out of position, then take him off with 20 minutes to go.

You have taken off 9 goals already in Whitehall which cost us the game today, leaving us with a combined team scoring 11 goals between them and Beestin has 5 of those.

    Absolutely tragic.

Whitehall looked a fish out of water and totally disinterested in that position. Not good enough, but it wasn’t his natural position. As soon as Whitehall was off the only player who has scored goals was Beestin! Players don’t seem to be playing near enough to Beck for his flick ons to ever make a mark, which makes you wonder why the game plan is to keep that up.

If Beck does not get balls to the right place – he will fail. We are short of wingers. The right sort of crosses are missing …

I don’t rate him but then again half the squad should be playing on a Sunday morning not Saturday afternoon

Not a good game today, however he’s not the reason we are playing like we are.

He scored 20 odd goals for Darlo at this level and looked very good against us for Solihull last year- maybe the problem is us…

We failed to maximise the talents of Elliott last year and look like doing the same with Beck. He has significant strengths at NLN level which we need to use, perhaps he might be tried wide right next game, after all Evans, Denton, Brogan and Whitehall have all been victims of bizarre selections.

Butler needs to put Roberts on one wing with Carlton on the other and just give Beck a chance with proper service from wide areas into the box to show what he can do. It’s not Becks fault we aren’t scoring it’s not anybody’s fault but the managers for not utilizing his squad properly IMO.

Yeah heard it all before about Gallimore, Cribb, Wilson, some kid with a double-barrel name who was as instantly forgettable as his football ability.

No they were utter shite and so his Beck.

You would not put money on a donkey over a racehorse at Aintree, so why defend players who are simply not good enough.

PS those above have done nothing since leaving!

Beck has been a let down no getting round that but havent all the signings so far under ABs tenure? and rather worryingly if the BovD who seem set to give AB n Scoff the whole season receive funds from the sale of Roberts or others will this be wasted chasing to save his job.

The recruitment has been very poor and still lumbered with most of the over paid Hilton / JD signings who for the most part look like they dont give a toss ..

My oh my how we have missed Butterfield in mid field, his goals , free kicks and corners.

Who scouted him? Was he Stan’s choice? Hopefully he’s only on a one year contract?
Will he score or will it snow first?

Check his record, he can play and he can score. The problem is that him and Butler play different games. Beck can’t change his, Butler can.

That number eleven shirt is still unclaimed!

Turnbull’s parting gift another dud or is Butler misusing the players at his disposal again? The fact we’ve paid a transfer fee for the first time under our new board and handed a two season contract to a striker who looks a carthorse and has so far failed to score in 6 games, epitomises our recruitment strategy. Maybe the money spent on the transfer should have been used to retain one of our previous POTY’s who were already proven at our club. We should not have let Butler / Turnbull loose with the cheque book for more signings when the writing was already on the wall.

Some concerning mumblings yesterday about us having agreed a fee for Cal Robert’s to move to a league club in Jan. Is ‘illness’ a ruse to ensure he didn’t pick up an injury which would derail said transfer? I share your view IFA , If he is to go and we pocket a transfer fee I sincerely hope Butler isn’t given those funds to bring in more flops. Any surplus cash would be much better utilised addressing the crux of the problem and the single most important member of the team. The manager!

Doh! We paid good money for him!
    Double Doh! He’s on a 2 year!
    Jesus!
He’ll not get 20 goals in 2 seasons!

He might playing in a team with the right tactics, he won’t playing in his current team with it’s current tactics.

    0 from 7 appearances.

I’m going to predict a first goal and a hat-trick on Saturday 1st March 2025 at Buxton.
    Buxton 1-3 Iron

Becks’ brain, boot & ball will be in syzygy due to the dark forces of the (8 [inc Earth] ) planetary parade and its own syzygynomical enchantment.

    He can’t score enough.
    A 1:5 ratio equates to 9 goals a season.
For me, I’d want my midfielders weighing in with that tally.

    Lineker 238 – 461 … goal every 1.94 games
    Shearer 283 – 559 … 1.98 games

    Hooper 255 – 640 … 2.51
    Sharp 282 – 746 … 2.65

    Flounders 175 – 408 … 2.33
    Cammack 158 – 482 … 3.05

    Greaves 469 – 707 … 1.50
    B Clough 251 – 274 … 1.09

Well Scales and Clunan are knocking the goals in from CM.
Carlton and Beck are scoring shedloads up front.
So, no need to have any concerns AND we have the bonus of loadsa goals from defenders which is a real bonus.

We sign a player who is a success at another club playing a certain way. We then play him in a different way and are surprised at the outcome!! I’d be more concerned if Beck was heading crosses off target yet to see him get a cross put in to him. We hit long balls to him and no one is playing up with him. Same with Carlton, a scoring winger and we ask to be a striker! Only now is he playing wide in a 3.
We are confused understanding AB’s weekly change in style, formation and players. These simple players (no insult we are at NLN) want to be a round peg in a round hole, have no chance. Recent example AB plays Whitehall (good No.9) as a No.10. From the start of the season ABs instance that full backs can be wing backs. Judge players when they asked to do the job they are here to do. Butler is no genius coach and neither are the players good enough to adapt. Keep it simple and have a style that suits and get good at it by playing it week after week.

Up to Mr Butler now. 23 matches to go and does he want success ? As Iron64 says keep it simple and rounds in rounds. The 442 or 433 is the way to go and make opponents deal with us, when you listen to his post match interviews he seems to say we change to cope with opponents.

The next thing is try to reduce the number of changes in each game and create stability. Best to all for 2025.

How did he do when he came on yesterday?
I’m asking in all seriousness and not taking the rise as I was unable to listen to the second half due to other commitments.

He did what he was put on to do ..be a target and keep their big centre back occupied. There were glimpses of lay off skills but by the time he came on we were managing the game. Our subs did OK but the game, despite a real effort to get a goal back from Kings Lynn, was just kept under control by us. I was hoping for a second half goal ..maybe from Beck, Carlton or Williams … but no complaints around me as we headed for the exit.

As said he did a job and did it pretty well. We weren’t in free flowing attack mode 2nd half!! He won the ball, kept it/laid it off, flicked it it on.
I view it from Kings Lynn point of view, Whitehall taken off and its Beck an experienced forward not Fishburn or Carlton out of position taking his place. Kept their defence honest and defending. Yes it would be nice if another forward scores but winning is fine.

Beck did alright when he came on, but wasn’t anything special. As mentioned above, we don’t really play to his strengths, but even when Kelly or Scales crossed late on, he didn’t win the headers as hoped. Don’t think we’re seeing anything like his best yet.

were we playing free flowing attacking football in the 2ns half? No. We were defending from the front to maintain an impressive 3-0 win? He did a job for the team, as did all the subs. A team that won 3-0.
Not sure i noticed Williams in the attacking 1/3 that often, but he helped keep it to nil.
Enjoy a good performance and a win. It wasn’t Alfreton or Hereford
