Sounds serious, never nice when players sustain serious injuries. Was the dodgy pitch to blame?
January 9, 2025 at 6:46 pm #296756Yes.
January 9, 2025 at 6:51 pm #296757Yes,,,?
Really?
You have proof?January 9, 2025 at 6:55 pm #296759Looked like it when I saw it happen. Should have added – in my opinion.
Sorry to have upset you.1 user thanked author for this post.

January 10, 2025 at 5:08 am #296767Gutted for the lad, consistent performer for us this year too.
The Pitch is a disgrace and more than likely was the cause, will not be surprised to see players either holding back on it or getting injured.
January 10, 2025 at 6:24 am #296770Maybe the Board want to go down a plastic pitch route – cheaper long term maintenance.
Shit pitch… perfect excuse to go plastic.January 10, 2025 at 8:38 am #296772EFL = grass.
January 10, 2025 at 8:51 am #296773Dont know the life span of a plastic pitch but could be an option for the next 5 years as realistically thats how long i predict to get back to the EFL.. at which point go back to grass.
For what ever reason the current AAGP ” allotment ” is a disgrace.
January 10, 2025 at 9:12 am #296775I guess the whole sad affair shows that sometimes, the cheapest option is not always the best option. The pitch is in the worst condition I have ever seen and should never have been allowed to get into such a state.

January 10, 2025 at 11:53 am #296781Seen Counties level pitches in far better state this season, with many more games being played on them (women’s, juniors, youth teams etc). Granted they have more sunlight exposure not having stadiums surrounding them but all the same…
January 10, 2025 at 11:58 am #296783The pitch.
An ex,ex,ex Director recommend and engaged the cowboys that relaid the pitch last close season, one of the reasons why he got his 3rd ex.
The cowboy firm claimed that from laying to being suitable for use was a month, the reason that the club carried on letting out the pitch up to 3 times a day for a further month after the season ended.
As it became clear that the pitch, a month after being laid was never going to be ready a new team was brought in to attempt to salvage the pitch forcing a pre season friendly to be cancelled.
Whose fault is it?
An ex,ex, ex Director for engaging cowboys, and the club for believing him.
Will the pitch last the season?
I very much doubt it.
Was the pitch the reason for Ross Barrows injury?
Certainly a contributing factor.
All we can do as supporters is wish him as speedy recovery as is possible.January 10, 2025 at 12:03 pm #296784I know little about pitches and how long they need to be left before use but one month seems a bit soon. Or is that the standard time, if it’s decent quality?
Also, if it becomes unplayable at some point this season, might there be an option to play remaining home game at Gainsborough? Or at least for the time it takes to install a 3G pitch or new turf?

No, usual time is a lot longer but when a cowboy firm claims they have “miracle quick growing seed” and customer falls for it!!!
It hadn’t been relaid the season before because Hilton wouldn’t pay for it so IMO it should’ve been turfed instead of scraped and seeded.January 10, 2025 at 12:11 pm #296786Sounds like one magic bean seller selling to another one.
January 10, 2025 at 1:20 pm #296788I believe it was straight drilled and not cross drilled aswell so the pitch did not knit correctly, quite an appalling mistake for a so called professional outfit.
January 10, 2025 at 1:30 pm #296790Looked like it when I saw it happen. Should have added – in my opinion.
Sorry to have upset you.Too much opinion as fact on this site
January 10, 2025 at 3:00 pm #296792That’s hilarious coming from you 64.
Ok, let’s stick to facts then :
1. Ross Barrows has ruptured his ACL.
2. The pitch has been ruined by a substandard renovation and is covered with sand.
3. There is a lot of that sand in the area where Ross was injured.
4. He wasn’t tackled by another player, in fact there was no one near him, but he started to turn as he ran and dropped to the ground.
5. This a forum on the internet supposedly for people interested in or maybe even supporters of Scunthorpe United Football Club to exchange views and opinions relating to said football club.My opinion, drawn from those facts led me to answer Yes to Ironawes question as to whether the “dodgy pitch was to blame”.
If anyone wishes to post a different opinion then I will respect that.
I was stood in the Donny Road end, saw it happen and knew straight away it was bad from the way I saw him drop to the ground. All the best to Ross Barrows, it is a serious injury but from what I have seen and heard from him he has the character to come back from such an injury.
January 10, 2025 at 3:40 pm #296794Your opinion is not fact,no matter how hard you try make it so
January 10, 2025 at 4:10 pm #296795It may not strictly be a fact, but I’d say it’s a good estimation of a strong contributing factor.

I listed 5 things I’m reasonably confident are facts.
I’ve given my opinion, it can only ever be that – a personal opinion or belief, I can’t make it a fact and I’m not trying to.January 10, 2025 at 8:42 pm #296801Butler said we have a few trialists in and a few who we could sign on loan. Really sad for Ross, but better sign somebody because we’ll end up playing a CB there if not.
January 11, 2025 at 9:28 am #296810He also said he could use Kelly, Scales or Brogan there. (Didn’t mention Beck though!) But, I agree, we need a genuine RB.

Denton may not be fit if so could see Kelly LB Scales RB .. looking at early pitch inspections quite a few getting postd including some on plastic
January 11, 2025 at 3:08 pm #2968392 weeks to bring a right back in and we prioritize a catering and events manager instead.
At least we seem to have money to throw around.

Maybe a right footed catering and events manager who can play right back Saturday/Tuesday!

Maybe find a hospitality n Events manager who can also play RB … onnee kiddin but it is a bit annoying prioritizing this over playing staff… couldnt a HnEM wait until next season as seem have muddled through with that part of the club for a while.
January 12, 2025 at 10:43 am #296945Butlers interview now deems it a necessity we sign a right back!.
What if anything are the Michelle and the board getting right.
Employing an inexperienced manager.
Giving said manager a extended contract.
Can’t make their mind up on whether we need a catering and events manager or not while letting others come in and organize their own events.
Can’t make up their mind whether we do in house catering or not.
Can’t even run the iron bar ffs.
Let all and sundry come in with any little deal to get money out of fans no matter how distasteful they look.
Got us the worst pitch we’ve ever seen.
And gone backwards by turning us into a job centre for waifs and strays.January 12, 2025 at 11:01 am #296946Dave’s not coming back.
