To me for once they seem to have done something good in training with him, and agree with all the criticisms but he did good yesterday and im happy with that for now.

Put another way he did better for the team getting his chance when Whitehall is out than Elliot ever did.

I was not a particular fan of Elliott either, but that’s nonsense.

Similar situation for Beck & Elliott IMO, failed to play to their strengths in both cases.

I did judge him on what I saw and he was limited

Of course he’s limited, as Torpey was limited. Beck’s a straight forward no frills targetman as was the aforementioned Torpey. What do you expect him to do exactly, Glide past players and start running the channels ?

I’m guessing you’re a new fan because you obviously have no idea what Torpey offered or what John Murphy offered Blackpool offered back in the day who was a similar type of player.

Those type of strikers are there to get the best out of others and not necessarily shine themselves. All they are there to do really is occupy defenders, lay the ball off and win flick on’s.

We all want our players to do well especially strikers.

I am only telling it as I see it, Beck came here with a 1 in 7 goal ratio. That said his game was more of a provider or creater for others.

I have not seen anything to convince me he can create or provide or that he was worth paying money for.

Torpey also knew what places to occupy; Beck didn’t. Taking into account the lower standard, I still don’t think he was very good for a target man. Beck was a yard off and I wasn’t expecting him to play a mirror image of Carlton. I said this previously, but why read that when you can make a highly presumptive tweet full of your usual flibbergibbet style?

Torps scored 1 in 4 games for us!

Beck ain’t qualified to clean his boots let alone be compared with.

He created two opportunities for Beestin and Robert’s in the first half, it’s not Becks fault they both failed to make the best of them.

Rene, I wasn’t making a direct comparison in terms of goal output but drew comparisons as to their playing style. Two targetmen ?.

Siderite, of course Becks was a yard off towards the end when he came off because he isn’t match fit. Not really played much, has he ?

I’m not his biggest fan, but you really need to be a bit more fair.

By a yard off I meant he was a yard off where he ought to be (poor positioning), but I understand that I could have worded that better. I just don’t think he was good enough yesterday, but not because of lack of effort. That couldn’t be faulted. I have also said in some posts that he might gel with time and I hope he proves me wrong. I don’t see how I can be fairer from my perspective, except for saying things I don’t believe.

Deerey – I did inted to use that word. ;-)

I don’t think Beck’s the answer but to me he looks like he would be most effective in a two with another forward feeding off him.

We don’t have that and we also have wide players whose first instinct is to cut inside and shoot rather than get to the byline.

He needs a “big man, little man” setup in a 442 with plenty of crosses into the box but unfortunately for him, nobody plays that way anymore.

The lad needs to step up today.
Centre Forwards are paid to score goals.
Hopefully, he’ll net a Panenka, a Rabona and a Cocomelon.

If we’ve no W’hall & Beestin tomorrow, then just go for it!
    K-3-1-4-3
The 1 is Clunan, the 3 would be Roberts, Banjo, Fadera.
Banjo’s fortunes must turn at some point? Is tomorrow the day?

This is all about the man who sends them out against Chester.

Players are either bouncing or tippy tappy.

Beck has many good footballing qualities. It’s been said before but systems have to make some effort to work to his strengths.

Beck was little more than nuisance value yesterday when he came on but in fairness to the guy he was clearly nowhere near fit, you could see that in the pre-match warm up. Considering our injury list and players like Alfie with a bandaged thigh and not 100% fit also it was an immense effort by all the squad to win the game and be part of an entertaining day which had the crowd buzzing. Shame about the embarrassment from the idiot at halftime and as for the away fans flare throwers, well the bigger the crowd the bigger chance of the moronic fringe surfacing to try and spoil things.

Would have been nice when Whitehall is fit that he would have had to fight for a place in the team. Sadly opportunity missed.

Watching a 6’7” guy get out muscled wasn’t great viewing and that bit where he got “pushed” over and lay on the ground holding his head was embarrassing!

We did just fine without a centre forward for 70 minutes.

His stats get worse game by game.
We’ll never be able to offload him until his contract expires.

It’s ok the new funding model will pay his wages in full in less than 2 weeks next season, lol.

    0 in 5

Sweepstake as to when he nets his first goal?

Running out of chances to score his second of the season.

    Will he?

[the other night doesn’t count as it was the Albert Square Community Cup]
