For fish and chips, I rate very highly Scalinis in Ravendale Street, Scunthorpe.

August 22, 2021 at 3:14 pm #212397Are you advocating we go and support another local team, the likes of Lincoln or Hull they are frying high at the moment, I mean they’ve never been in the doldrums have they?. Football is know where near a comparison with fish and chips, and why drive all the way to Doncaster when Grimsby is nearer BS.
August 22, 2021 at 3:16 pm #212398Or support Rochdale, good fish shop outside the ground.

August 22, 2021 at 3:28 pm #212400Or Crewe Mick there even better, let’s face it almost anywhere, where is our nearest chippy that’s open, never mind good?
August 22, 2021 at 4:38 pm #212404You can’t get chips in GP any more anyway.
August 22, 2021 at 5:02 pm #212405BS – if on the East side of Sheffield – Whitby’s Fish restaurant in Catcliffe – 1st exit off the Sheffield Parkway – is terrific eating in. Huge portions. Not quite so brilliant with takeaways.
Takeaways – Frymaster on Attercliffe Rd, S9 is regularly and rightly voted best in the city. Lunchtimes only. Small restaurant attached – GREAT prices. Much cheaper than Whitby’s eating in – parking not the best.
Trouble is if we wish to do a takeaway – it deteriorates a notch on the awkward drive back to ours.
So, if not eating in the car – buy from Richmond Fisheries on Richmond Rd, S13 and remember to ask for fish to be ‘crispy’.BS – good to see you appreciate the truly important things!
(Now tell me you prefer Irish to Scotch and we are mates for life!)August 22, 2021 at 6:05 pm #212408BS –

(Now tell me you prefer Irish to Scotch and we are mates for life!)Don’t tell him you came in on the Windrush les or you will be straight off the BS Xmas card list. 😂
Good chippy in Ashby– Carvers, the haddock is superb and the chips and mushy peas are also very goodAugust 22, 2021 at 7:06 pm #212410Went downhill like this thread, once the Greeks got hold of it Ironawe.

August 22, 2021 at 7:18 pm #212411I’ve been to Crewe a few times but can’t remember the fish & chip shop, the last time in one of our promotion years, didn’t there used to be one across the road from Stockport’s years and years ago, but could be wrong.
August 22, 2021 at 8:30 pm #212418Ernie Beckett’s, Market Place, Cleethorpes.
Sam’s Fish Bar, Marsden Drive, Scunny.
I used to rate Carvers but when Rosie sold it to the Cypriots they put prices up by 25-30% and it’s not what it was.
Witness the lack of queues which used to be out of the door.Another good eat-in is the Wetherby Whaler in Wakefield.
August 22, 2021 at 9:16 pm #212422I am not surprised the foreigners have ruined fine British cuisine! They don’t know what to cook apart from off meat covered in spices! Their muck isn’t fit for purpose, so they will ruin fish and chips! There aren’t many good fish and chip shops now because of this! I hope libtards are happy with the outcome of their diversity! We used to have good chippies, now ruined because this country is being flooded with immigrants who can cut costs!

That’s crap Awaywego and you know it, eat with your gob man not your eyes judging a shop owners nationally or colour, the fish and chips are still excellent at Carvers and I suspect the new owners use the same fish suppliers and possibly they took advice from Rosie on the old cooking method that made them taste so good. As for price, everything goes up but the quality remains, plus they do home delivery now.

Bloody hell Mike, I thought Donny was far enough mate, but I am certaily not driving all the way to Crewe or Stockport, but it just highlights the interest in the football club when the fish and chip shop subject takes over this ha ha!, by the way, the Donny shop only opens at lunch time, and not Sun or Mon, but 11-00 hrs till three, and four on Friday and Saturday.
And Les, if you are making reference to whisky pal, I love a single malt and Bunaharban Scotch is my preference, I used to have a collection of eighty odd single malts, but now down to five, I blame that on supporting Scunny ha ha!, but remember the Quayside chip shop near Donny market car park, it is brill. Yes Awaywego, Grimsby is not bad, and at least one trip per week for me, the best one I find is the one opposite Steels in Cleethorpes, the pea bun in Grimsby market is also good, but the bloody fish are so small, but you will not find any bones in them, because they are too young to have devoloped any, you need to order yourself three fish if you are hungry ha ha!

Yes Alkazar, Beckets thats the one I meant, but tell them to cook it lightly battered.
I think we will turn this forum into a fish and chip shop topic, surely there seems to be more interest than talking about Scunthorpe Utd, although UTI99 would feel out of it, because he only uses the GP eatery, but that would be a good thing for us, unless there is a Swann Fish & Chip shop we don’t know about !!!
Funny thing is that I once called at the Wetherby Whaler when OI worked in Scotland, I had three pints in Leeds pub, got the fish and chips and put them on the car roof whilst taking my keys out of my pocket, there was a police car with two cops sitting thirty yards away, christ I got in the car and drove off with the fish and chips still on the car roof, I stopped and retreaved them and gave the cops a smile and slowely drove off!!, a near miss that was.August 23, 2021 at 12:37 am #212432I am not surprised the foreigners have ruined fine British cuisine! Iron-awe—-can I detect a bit of racisme in your post ha ha!, the immigrants have to cut cost mate, because they have spent all their money on boat crossing from France, don’t get me started Iron-awebecause it is now 12-40 hrs and I will not be able to sleep wondering how many have crossed today ha ha!

Topics: 4In the past 25 years I have never known queues to extend out the door from Carvers, and I am pretty sure the Greeks haven’t owned it for that long. Anyway, I was never the biggest fan of Carvers. Kingstons for me.
August 23, 2021 at 9:22 am #212440Didn’t you see my like on Inspectors post Ironawe,Scalinis is Greek, owned don’t bring race into this just imo carvers went down hill when they took over, nothing more.
August 23, 2021 at 9:24 am #212441Perhaps they are the same staff who are running the iron bar BR.

August 23, 2021 at 9:31 am #212444I was unexpectedly free on Saturday afternoon and it briefly occurred to me that I could go to Glanford Park but I quickly decided not to bother. Leaving aside the fact I wasn’t even sure if you could just turn up and pay on the gate, I just didn’t fancy it what with the state of the Iron Bar, the flooded toilets, the scruffiness of everything, all in return for the privilege of paying north of £20.
I don’t really mind the team being crap, I’ve never been a Scunny fan because of the superb football on offer. But I’m not going to be taken for granted.

Sure season ticket holders aren’t botheringIts safe to assume that Swann won’t be covering any more losses so the question is: how long can we continue before the administrators are called in?
September 26, 2021 at 2:02 pm #214236Were doomed aye were doomed.
September 26, 2021 at 8:03 pm #214244Well now joint bottom and the only person responsible is Mr Peter Swann.
Arrived 8 years ago, held fans forums on his terms as it was HIS club and let every one know it. Made statements in answer to questions from the tolerated. Which many will remember.
Adopted a recruitment policy that would appear to have have wasted lots of money. And who carried the can the club !
Attendances will continue to fall, perhaps someone at the club will say that is the aim. Because no one knows the aim.

End of.September 26, 2021 at 10:24 pm #214251….and he’s run away, refusing to turn up to home games, frightened of the response he would receive in public. I guess he’s strolling round his new hotel in Blackpool with his fingers in his ears on match days singing ” la la la la all is good in my world “.

September 27, 2021 at 9:50 am #214270To be fair would you turn up to watch the apparent shite that’s on offer at home games, owner or not.

Are the toilets still flooded?
If they are I don’t know how the likes of uti can possibly defend it and damn critics as if they’re spoiled rotten by recent good years. Football is paramount, but fans need to be treated with dignity. It’s not even a case of the furore over catering, because the need to relieve oneself in a clean, hygienic environment is surely something we should expect, because it’s part of nature and cannot be controlled. Going to toilet and standing in dirty water with other people’s piss is surely unacceptable at a certain point.
I get that toilets will always be unpleasant, they won’t be the cleanest places in the world and there will be some pools of water by the urinals etc and a smell of ammonia. However, flooding is unacceptable and it astonishes me that anyone can defend it by saying critics are expecting to be treated like princes and princesses and we should just support the team.
This is unacceptable and is on the owner, not the fans for complaining.

September 27, 2021 at 11:37 am #214287In the West Stand the toilets have been considerably better the last couple of home games. The lighting is a little bit brighter and flooding no longer in evidence.
Sadly probably helped by not so many people actually using them. Food/Drinks kiosk seems to be working OK although I never use them myself. Again no queues helped by less fans.
Quite a few season ticket holders not bothering to come also last 2 matches (they didnt miss much).
