Well the manager informed our supporters that his team will be playing attacking entertaining football this season, so as an introduction at Lincoln tonight, he set the team up with a 5-4-1 formation, and placed everone in our third of our half for the last 20 minutes, does this bring back memories to th Alexander times???
It looks as though it may be the better option by watching games on the computer rather than the one up front that our managers always seem to prefer.
September 8, 2020 at 11:44 pm #194470Well done. Last pre-season game out of the way. 6 changes from saturday and another formation used.
Sounds as though 90 minute fitness levels still not there but sounds as though a lot of positives.
September 8, 2020 at 11:46 pm #194471Not ideal no but it’s about getting minutes in to people who need them.
He promised 2 up front and hasn’t done that yet but we’ll see what Saturday brings. That’s when I’ll start to judge.
September 9, 2020 at 12:19 am #194474Barton, you’re looking too much into this probably. I did however question why Cox didn’t stick Mooney on and go with 2 upfront when we couldn’t get out from our half.
I thought that was a little suspect but he probably wanted to try that formation and wanted people to be run into the ground to get minutes into them.
Dales went off with a dead leg as a precaution but gree got Poleaxed, I hope he’s ok and nothing serious happened with him.
I thought he looked good. I wouldn’t have minded him upfront with Loft on saturday but doubt he’ll be fit now.
September 9, 2020 at 5:26 am #194475Lincoln commentators went on and on about our fitness levels when it was largely a question of far more experienced players naturally taking control against lesser experienced.
There were a great many problems in team selection for last night and I accepted the formation.
Neil had said that he would be resting players – and he did.Like the look of Hippolyte. Promising.
Team for Saturday – Covid and injuries permitting? – McAtee back in the reckoning? What day did his isolation start?
Who to use as FBs may be the biggest question.
Has the German guy (I’ll learn to spell his name later) got his international clearance?
Nice to see that Bedeau will soon be under challenge for his place.
Cordnor and Harrison – that will be a super pairing.September 9, 2020 at 7:52 am #194476why did you listen to their commentary les, if you had gone into settings you could have had Radio Humberside’s, the bit I saw of the preseason game their commentators took biased to a new level.
September 9, 2020 at 7:58 am #1944774-5-1 doesn’t automatically mean to be a defensive line-up, it’s the intention that makes a line-up defensive or attacking.
September 9, 2020 at 8:30 am #194478All things considered I thought it was a good effort and important not to lose over 90 minutes.
For what it’s worth I thought we were really good in the first half. We pressed well and carved out a couple of opportunities. I don’t think we were ever going to keep it up for the whole game.
The second half was a struggle and almost attack v defence. Jarvis not up to it just yet on that showing. Don’t think he won a header all night.
A big shame for Green as he looked good – poor challenge on him.
Hippolyte looked strong & useful. Think he will be a decent player when up to speed.
O’Malley should get the nod on Saturday over Butroid IMO.
September 9, 2020 at 9:15 am #194482Thanks, Mick. Good to know. Those two guys talked more donkey poo than I’ve heard in ages.
For me, that nasty tackle on Green, with malice aforethought, was a red.
O’Malley gets my vote too, Matt.
That was a long way off from the best team we can start to put out in the next two weeks. Chuffed silly that McGahey got 60 minutes. I’d be very tempted to start him on Saturday and be prepared to sub him after 70 minutes if necessary.
September 9, 2020 at 9:28 am #194485les Scunny put it on Twitter about the commentary, and said about how to change it but did say EFL are hoping it will automatically switch to to the local commentary for Saturday to the club you have registered to and watching the game on.
September 9, 2020 at 10:19 am #194490That’s how it always used to work Mick. I watched all the away games last year and always defaulted to Humberside commentary yesterday was the first time I’ve ever had to change it manually.
