Trialist A must be signed – preferably today!
Classy; vision; leadership qualities; great passer and reader of the game.

Didn’t see enough of trialist C to judge but there were certainly positives.

Everything Trialist B did well – Trialist A did better. Too many errors in B’s game but there were positives too.

Kenyon slower than expected but did the simple things well.

Davis looks our best CB – ahead of Taft based on not a lot of minutes watching.

    Liked Thompson and O’ Neill.

Now firmly believe we can aim for lower mid-table.

Best of all – in a hard game by ‘friendly’ standards we rarely gifted possession – a critical thing to be remedied after last season.
Players worked for each other. Smile.

Another encouraging performance for me. Had some decent chances and played a bit of football. Probably just shaded the game but sucker punched with a cracking shot for their goal.

To be fair Hull didn’t have many Championship quality players in their team on that showing. A fairly unfit looking Huddleston showed the most quality for them first half.

2 trialists in centre midfield. Dont know who they are. Both did OK. The taller dark haired guy hit 2 or 3 quality crossfield passes and was probably the pick of the 2.

Wide left trialist came on for 2nd half and showed some neat touches. Watson’s kicking still poor and way too quiet for me.

Most of our own young lads did well.

disagree there Les, and quite a few others agree that trialist B (number 8) up to the substitutions was probably the best player on the pitch on our side, I was impressed with all three trialists and the young winger ran them ragged at times, our football was more pleasant on the eye to watch and I have no complaints with any performances and we certainly didn’t deserve to lose though it was a cracking strike, I am more optimistic than a fortnight ago that we can’t hold our own in this division.

Young winger was Cameron Wilson. I like him, he has a hair cut like the Jim Carey out of the film Dumb and Dumber, which makes him a potential iron legend in my eyes. Got to have some inner confidence walking around with a Barnet like that.

I think trialist B I’m pretty sure was that Alex Perry. You can tell he has a good range of passing. I’d sign him if I was Cox. Good age, classy and available on a free.

Only was replaced with Ojo last season because their manager wanted to tighten them up to not play as expansive in order to survive.

No idea who that other trialist was next to him was…Looked pretty good. Only reason why trialist B made the errors he made was because he was trying much more on the ball, to be fair we need somebody like him at the club.

Really good passer of the ball. I thought the winger who came on looked to have much more promise than Hippolyte, not saying a lot I know but he looked to have something about him.

I’d start the 3 trialists from the start and if they come through that and play well again, sign them up. Perry needs probably signing from the off though, 2 good performances now.

The other 2 need more time, give them plenty of minutes Tuesday and see how they get on. Both look to have ability.

The two loanees due in by the looks of it will probably be a loan striker with a GK. I doubt one of the loans would be a CM or a winger due to us having 2 CM’s and a winger at the club on trial.

Maybe Cox was right after all. Cox did say he had to play that way he was last season due to the players not having enough discipline to play any other way.

You can see a marked improvement now. Dare I even say we look quite progressive now.

last pre-season went quite well. Some
who played well ended up being wage thieves/donkeys. One would hope that now a footballing man is making footballing decisions that we take some optimism into the league season and we can get to a solid mid table position.

I think number 4 looked more like Perry looking at a picture of him in his Wigan strip, I know Cox likes him and said today he isn’t fully fit yet.

Enjoyed it today, some good football played. Black mark to the club because of the very dirty seats, I was prewarned and took a cloth. UTWI

Presumably somebody from Cool Silk should have cleaned the seats, not the clubs job now surely.

I thought today’s encounter was a good one. No-one was bad, trialist B (no 8) looked a class apart at times. I’d sign him up. No 4, trialist A, also looked very useful and is worthy of another game at the very least.

My only real criticism is that we still look at little toothless up front. Sort that out and we will do nicely this season.

No 16 who came in at half time on the left wing was Nick Clayton-Phillips, 21 year old released from West Brom, I was impressed.

We do look very light up front though.

If we signed 1 (or both) of the CM trialists, the left winger & then a couple of loanees (1 being a striker) then I’d be happy.

I too thought all the trailists looked of a better standard then we had last year (except gillead and Karacan) if we can get those 3 and a goalkeeper and striker I would be happy, I think Tom Collins should be loaned out to gain some experience as I believe he will be our keeper for the future.

I read the other day we had a lad from WBA on trial with a double barrel name but couldn’t remember it.

Glad to see that the guys that went to todays match seem to be happy with the players they are seeing, that makes me happy and just hope that things are looking better than what we have been served up with over the past three seasons, so well done guys, and I hope that I am completely wrong with my views of Neil Cox. Up the Iron, hope you do well this season!!!!!!!

Yes Bill (WE), I think I am ok using that word, having only missing one match during the past 13 years, apart from the one’s Covid affected.

I looked at every face in the East Stand yesterday and not only did I not know a single person – I did not see a single face I even recognised all afternoon.
I know a fair few who use that stand and would easily recognise three or four dozen more. They weren’t there.
Okay – it’s always a limited turnout where friendlies are concerned but … it concerned me. There should have been more than a few.

I usually sit in the East stand but have stood in Donny Road for the friendlies. Easier to manage keeping distance.

Saw some familiar faces so I’m probably not the only one doing this.

Have moved to the West stand for my season ticket this year. My thinking was just in case Swann starts building his apartments over the East stand and closes it. Now thinking with infections soaring again moving to the busiest part of the ground might not be a smart move even for us double jabbed.

At my age I’m one of Boris’s dispensables.

Most optimistic thread I’ve read in 3 years on here.

Good to hear the positive reports though and fills me with some confidence going into the Swindon game.

Grand kids wouldn’t go if they had to sit in the east stand, unless they opened the corner up.

Cox even said trialist B was alex perry. I thought that was him going by his range of passing. Perry stuck out like a sore thumb because we don’t have anybody at the club currently who can pass like that.

Really should be signing him. He’s one player we do need.

I know Matt Dean said trialist B was Perry, but where does he say which one is Perry on the interview Burny.

I thought number 4 was Perry, which according to the teamsheet was trialist A.

If he was the number 8, he did okay except for trying to scoop pass twice in about 5 minutes.

Matt Dean has just tweeted me and said before the interview started he asked him who trialist B was, and Neil said “ Alex Perry has come into the building….” which everyone knows, so he presumed he was B, but Matt said he never mentioned which was A, B or C, but I have seen pictures and a YouTube interview with Perry and unless it is a complete fluke that lad looked like number 4, number 8 looked like a teenager but I would be happy signing all 3 trialists because there is some talent there, also was really impressed with Callum Wilson on the wing, this lad is little but he ran rings round there defence and he is ours.
