I recently attended An Evening With Kevin Keegan and thought it was a very enjoyable warm-hearted event ‘played in the right spirit’. The venue, despite not being the football club itself, was decent enough and made good sense due to the number of attendees.

Prior to KK, there was a short section of warm-up featuring Lee Turbull interviewing Brian Laws. Surprisingly, this was quite entertaining even though it only scratched the surface of one or two Iron things. It seemed to suggest An Evening With Brian Laws might be quite good, and it made me think about possible future events like this that the club could put on as small scale fundraisers. I personally would love to have as many from the 1999 promotion team and also the Wembley 1992 era back together for evenings of stories etc…

Would you attend this sort of event, and who would you like to see the club try to put on?

Great idea … dunno about her football interest or knowledge but an evening with Mia Khalifa would surely sell out ive heard she is a staunch Scunny fan !!

Seriously i reckon much as they do on match days some of the past Iron greats would make for a decent evenings entertainment…possibly something o along the lines of an after dinner speaker and include a nice multi course meal.

Maybe the new FnB team might be interested , surprised Glyn not thought of this hes usually on the ball re sponsorships and money making events.

Just going through my phone contacts trying to find Ms Khalifa number.

I thought it was embarassing, realising that GP couldn’t hold the numbers for a major event(what impression does that give?)and being suddenly moved to a car showroom.

Was that neccesary as Apollo says or a bit of Vanity for someone?

In response to your question, i’d rather hear from Modern day players(Bish would be a good one), or some club legends.

How about getting the 1999 play off team back together? or Adkins’s title winners? that would be good.

Brian Laws? Is it the same Brian Laws who in nearly ten seasons gave us teams that scored nearly 400 home league goals, and made us the envy of every other small club in the country?

Keep trotting it out bill, it’s still less than 2 goals per home game over that period.

Every day is a school day, you’ve never told us that, well not this week anyway. :-)

Top quality CB and was at times covering up Crosby’s mistakes. Shame he moved to Darlo. I’m sure he’d have a few stories to tell !

I’m pretty sure I’d be interested in hearing what any ex-Iron has to say, to be honest.

It’s possible that those from recent years might be the subject of gagging orders. Surely any manager between Laws and Nelson (inclusive) will have tales to tell if able. (Maybe leave out those that would send the crowd to sleep before they got to the interesting bits. You know who I mean!)

There was the sense (during Laws’s bit at the Kevin Keegan event) that he was unable to talk about the Peter Swann years, so I suspect you are absolutely correct about NDAs being in place.

Turnbull only half-heartedly tried to draw Laws out on Swann, and it was obvious this was more Turnbull putting Laws on the spot to make him uncomfortable for a laugh between them.

It was also equally clear that there was plenty Laws could say about Swann but wouldn’t, or would say about Swann but couldn’t.

    Scott Wiseman – gossip queen!

It was his ex PNE teammate Scott Laird in an interview hinted at the goings on during Swann’s tenure but bit his tongue and held back with the details.

Scott Laird, Scott Wiseman and Jack king all signed from PNE at the same time, I think it was Robbins that signed them.
Something kicked off between Laird and Swann and he was moved on to Walsall, he did an interview a year or so back, he hinted that things were not right between Swann and the manager and players.

I thought it was embarassing, realising that GP couldn’t hold the numbers for a major event(what impression does that give?)and being suddenly moved to a car showroom.

I assumed that the venue was donated to allow the club to put on an important money-spinning event? The cost of hiring, for example, the Baths Hall, would have put a huge dent in the revenue the club made from the evening.

The Event was scheduled for GP, but moved to Marshalls Used cars, wherever that is, is it near Eddie Wright? Without some of the ticket holders knowing.

There’s a few pubs and clubs in the town, surely, with connections to the Club who could have donated a room to help out?

I’m not convinced whilst we have the last of the shysters in the club this was hijacked as a publicity stunt.

any decisions made re where to host may have been lead by general interest and ticket sales ..was it a sell out? no point in booking a place like the Baths hall if not enough takers and vice versa a venue that may have been too small.

First guest speaker could be Wondergoals he could explain where and how HMS piss the league ran aground and was ship wrecked (only kiddin WGs) .

HMS PTL advocates were being sarcastic. Unless it actually happened. Then they’d have been deadly serious.
