Someone on another website has compiled a list of all competitive matches that have ever been abandoned (not postponed), I dread to think how long it took! Our only game on the list is v Bradford City on 9.2.2021 at Fortress Glanford, abandoned after 29 minutes due to snow. No spectators were inconvenienced though due to lockdown!
July 25, 2023 at 1:06 pm #267488That’s mad, you’d have thought there might be a handful. Must have been some close calls – Gillingham last home game when the chef was on the pitch brushing off water. Also went to Bury in the Auto Windscreens in Dec, Hayes scored and won by Silver Goal (i think) but pitch was rock hard and looked in real doubt into extra time.
July 25, 2023 at 2:15 pm #267490There was a Auto Windscreens game at home to Carlisle in the late 90s/early 00s which was abandoned at half time, if memory serves due to a frozen pitch.

July 25, 2023 at 2:17 pm #267491Well remembered Ferrite, there definitely was.
July 25, 2023 at 3:10 pm #267497As it was a Herculean task I think he only did league and FA Cup matches. Top of the list was Man City with 19 abandonments!

July 25, 2023 at 3:36 pm #267501No idea who it was against but I remember a match a abandoned due to fog, had to wait twenty minutes for them to give us a ticket from the scunny v arsenal game for the rearranged game, must have been before half time for them to do that.
July 25, 2023 at 3:44 pm #267504I think it’s the only game I’ve been to that’s been abandoned – had a couple of last-minute postponements, including Cheltenham (A) literally as I turned into Whaddon Road.
Anyone remember an FA Cup tie around 2009-10 played in dense fog. It was non-league opposition, possibly from Nottinghamshire area, but can’t recall their name. Can anyone remember? I think we won 4-0 or 4-1.
July 25, 2023 at 3:52 pm #267506Alfreton season before.

We’ve only played Arsenal once, in 1968 and there is no record of any abandonment that year?
July 25, 2023 at 4:09 pm #267509It was just the used tickets BG from the Arsenal game, I wonder if they’ve still got them If they came up on Ebay now they’d be worth more than the admission price at the time. Probably 2/6p
July 25, 2023 at 4:17 pm #267510Alfreton season before.
Paul Hayes off with a fractured cheekbone, Ben May came on and kept falling over, class act 😂

July 25, 2023 at 4:41 pm #267513That was probably the same month as the 4-4 with Northampton then? When Ben May scored and celebrated by squaring up to their centre back.
July 25, 2023 at 5:23 pm #267524The fog game was against Hartlepool.

July 25, 2023 at 5:41 pm #267531The foggy game was definitely against Alfreton in the FA Cup.

July 25, 2023 at 6:11 pm #267535Maybe there’s been more then one 🤔 remember some night games at the OSG when it was a struggle to see the Fox Street end goal from behind the Donny Road goal. I loved night games at the OSG but not the foggy ones so much.
July 25, 2023 at 6:18 pm #267537Doesn’t appear that foggy:
July 25, 2023 at 6:27 pm #267538Your right it doesn’t, have we played Hartlepool on more than one occasion?
July 25, 2023 at 6:32 pm #267541Your right it doesn’t, have we played Hartlepool on more than one occasion?
Indeed but my mind is rather foggy regarding the actual number, I’m sure Bobby will bail us out on this one.

I took it to be a reference to the 08/09 season or sometime around then, since Ferrite referenced this time period. If I am wrong, I apologise to MKiron, and I don’t mean harm by him. It’s not an attempt to get at it. I am just showing that people are thinking of the Alfreton game in earlier replies.

July 25, 2023 at 7:07 pm #267547Fine Siderite only having a laugh, Yes some of us are talking showground some glanny, should have said showground on my original post sorry.
July 25, 2023 at 7:46 pm #267548The Hartlepool game was at the OSG. Game definitely didn’t finish but I cannot remember if it actually started. In my defence it was over 50 years ago.
July 26, 2023 at 1:12 am #267556Most of the abandoned games are due to weather – fog, snow, frozen pitch, waterlogged pitch, heavy rain and thunderstorm/lightning. However there have been twelve other reasons that a match has been abandoned. Can anyone name them?
July 26, 2023 at 9:27 am #267563Pitch invasion like the Blackpool v. Huddersfield game at the end of the season a few years back.
Presumably things like referee injuries, or incidents in the crowd would be on the list too.
July 26, 2023 at 9:40 am #267566Hearse driving onto the pitch?
Oh, no, you said competitive games.
Must have been at least one where barriers or the like had become unsafe?
July 26, 2023 at 10:55 am #267573Don’t mention the war.
July 26, 2023 at 11:06 am #267574What about the war, DOH.
July 26, 2023 at 11:15 am #267576Liverpool fans acting silly buggers all trying to squeeze in behind the goal.
July 26, 2023 at 11:19 am #267577Not enough players left due to red cards and injuries. More common in South America but I vaguely remember it happening here.

July 26, 2023 at 11:22 am #267578Floodlights failing and electricity supply failure another 2. There must have been a bomb scare or 2 as well.

Famous Sheffield United v. West Brom.
Floodlights failing and electricity supply failure another 2. There must have been a bomb scare or 2 as well.
There was a Man United game called off for a bomb scare a couple of years ago but I think that was before kick off, rather than an abandonment.
