February 12, 2025 at 1:32 pm #298862We’re not a pub Rene they open 7 days a week 10+ hours a day, need heating at times ours won’t so much more profit to be made.
From what teams charge our fans for tinnies at matches never seen one below £4.50 it’s easy profit. Just the same that they could making if they opened up one or two in the ground at the moment.February 12, 2025 at 1:35 pm #298863NEXT!
February 12, 2025 at 6:10 pm #298873Good points Rene: I know our crowds have held up well during our plight, but there has been little growth in the 25 years or so I’ve supported us for. We do well, we average close to 4K, playing crap- they hover above 3k. As much as dislike the bloke, Swann must’ve been banging his head against a wall when the 2016-2018 teams in league 1 couldn’t get more then 4K home fans through the door.
Clubs local to us have seen crowds explode post covid: For differing reasons Grimsby, Lincoln, Mansfield, York, Chesterfield are all filling their grounds or seen a sharp rise in crowds. I don’t expect 7/8k per week as the population can’t support it, but surely it’s not overly ambitious to aim for half filling the ground every week?
Perhaps an option for the club to try something different could be to hold some focus groups- 10/11/12 supporters in a room with a representative from the club and see if anything comes from it. The fans forums are usually too large to hold any meaningful debate.

Away supporters are minimal and wouldn’t generate much revenue.
When are the restaurant’s opening days & hours nowadays?February 12, 2025 at 9:47 pm #298878I can’t think of anything that Peter Promise spent money on that successfully increased revenue streams for the club longer term, which was a real shame. Hopefully in time there can be investment in facilities that bring us additional revenue.
I hope the music festival comes off, it could be a great event for Scunthorpe. I suspect lots of people told Michael Evis he was wasting his time.February 13, 2025 at 11:01 am #298894Donnyfest £55 a pop
February 13, 2025 at 11:41 am #298896On the point of growing the fan base, it’s only in recent times I can remember there being offers on to boost the crowd.
That first season out of the wilderness in 1999 and they put the prices up after relegation ffs!
Meanwhile I could watch Hull City in the Premier League for £15!February 13, 2025 at 1:58 pm #298897Donnyfest £55 a pop
Formerly known as the Askern Music Festival and held on the village green of the old spa town.
The event didn’t take place last year as Doncaster Council wouldn’t issue a licence.
The previous year (2023) it took place elsewhere… with 3 hour queues at the bar and similar to leave the event. This will be the first year it’s known as “Donnyfest”.
Looking at the acts… the word “who” leaps from my mouth. Though I’m not that much clued up on popular music these days.

February 13, 2025 at 2:16 pm #298901Looking at those acts I wouldn’t be interested myself but £55 sounds just about alright for a day with that number of acts. Not much there to justify more than £55 mind. Dunno, can’t see a huge demand. Be interesting to hear how it goes and ticket sales

February 13, 2025 at 7:39 pm #298905There is a precedent for a football ground music festival in Scunny. In September 1966 The Old Showground hosted a beat festival featuring Georgie Fame, The Troggs, Geno Washington, The Creation, Chris Farlowe, The Mindbenders and Billy J. Kramer. Quite a top line-up for the time. £1 would get you in and it lasted from 5pm to 1 am.
