June 21, 2023 at 6:01 pm #264760Why don’t these billionaires just “pull them selves up by their bootstraps”?
June 21, 2023 at 6:59 pm #264768They’re still humans and this is still a tragedy.

June 22, 2023 at 6:38 am #264787June 22, 2023 at 10:53 am #264798It’s an absolute tragedy whatever your opinion on billionaires but what I find astonishing is that very successful self made men, obviously very intelligent in their various fields, would contemplate such a venture without thorough research of the vessels capability. The fact the company who owns the sub sacked their safety engineer 18 months ago for raising genuine safety concerns would have been screaming at me for starters.
June 22, 2023 at 11:28 am #264799I object to the word “tragedy”.
Wealthy people who spunk fortunes away to purposely put their lives at risk as well as the people who are attempting to rescue them.
A tragedy is the people who were needlessly killed in Nottingham, a tragedy is the dozens of people killed at the Manchester arena bombing, a tragedy is the deaths of nearly a hundred football fans at Hillsborough.June 22, 2023 at 11:42 am #264800You object all you want, anyone losing their life needlessly whatever the cause is a tragedy IMO.

Define your use of the word “needlessly” in this incident please.
June 22, 2023 at 12:29 pm #264802Made my observations, Hilton not posting anything on Facebook you want to gripe about?
June 22, 2023 at 1:09 pm #264803From everything I have read about this case so far it is evident that they have been ill prepared, stupid and using an ill fitted vessel. Stupid decisions aren’t crimes worthy of death and their lives still mean something. A tragedy is defined as an event which caused great suffering, destruction or distress. I fail to see how this falls out of that.
June 22, 2023 at 2:32 pm #264810I guess it depend son how you define “great”?

True, the sub gets more coverage than migrants because it’s sensational – there’s a Titanic connection, there are very wealthy people on-board, it’s deep underwater and the world is rushing to help… it’s a big story with massive public interest for all those reasons.
But, the fact is that all those in dire circumstances deserve our sympathy. It doesn’t have to be one and not the other.
