You have to ask why Dean or his coaches couldn’t see this. Neither Elliot or Whitehall stood a chance.
March 30, 2024 at 9:26 am #283418Are you Micah Richards?
March 30, 2024 at 9:27 am #283419Should I pretend to get that one?

It wasn’t Dean or the coaches that kept giving them the ball in the air. Surely pro footballers don’t need that pointing out to them or were they “just following orders”?
March 30, 2024 at 12:05 pm #283444For a game we should be winning it was bizarre that we just kept one up top all match. The amount of times the gap between the lone front man and the midfield was 10m+; you just thought Elliot playing off Whitehall as a front two – why not try it for 30 minutes?
March 30, 2024 at 1:24 pm #283460It was another jog, jog, jog day.
Holiday countdown timers activated.March 30, 2024 at 1:32 pm #283463March 30, 2024 at 1:39 pm #283466When a defending team leaves three players up on corners then the attacking side has to respond like for like to not get caught out on the break. Kings Lynne knew they had enough defensive capability to deal with our efforts from corners to do this and it worked.
March 30, 2024 at 1:46 pm #283468They had obviously done their homework on us and knew how little a threat we pose from corners. They didn’t do it last week against Tamworth.
There are probably 2 key advantages a full time club should hold over part time opposition. First they should be fitter and second their ability at set pieces should be much higher.
It speaks volumes of our coaching set up that after the first 6 weeks of the season we have never looked fitter than any of our part time opposition. We also have looked the poorest team in the league at creating chances from corners and wide free kicks.
Not so great at defending them either.

I think you’re missing the point. One striker up against 3 big dominant CB’s is ridiculous. As a poster said further up on the thread, neither Elliot or Whitehall stood a chance.
I mentioned yesterday that I was puzzled why he didn’t go 2 up top to occupy another one of their CB’s. One of way playing and doesn’t deviate away from it.
March 30, 2024 at 2:40 pm #283473Balls on the deck for Elliott and he would have skinned the giants surely. If we’d played 2 up and still given them the ball in the air it wouldn’t have made any difference IMO.
March 30, 2024 at 3:34 pm #283475Each sub was like for like – he has no plan B unless it’s a must win or nothing to lose (Chester) and when we attacked with two up they couldn’t live with us.
Dean will have us limping into the playoffs and then limping out of them.

Big ask when there’s hardly any space to run in to and surrounded by 3 giants. You also have to factor in that his game doesn’t lend it’s self to be played in the lone striker role as we’ve seen evidence of many times before.
March 31, 2024 at 5:51 am #283494Impossible to prove but a very strong chance that this tactic will see us remaining in NLN after this season.

Worth a try surely? At least it would have been something different but “different” isn’t really Jimmy’s thing is it.
March 31, 2024 at 11:22 am #283501Elliot surely has the attributes to be a decent striker at the level but he is simply awful.

March 31, 2024 at 1:15 pm #283512Used wrongly – it’s that simple. (To the untrained eye, to professionals it’s clearly more difficult)
March 31, 2024 at 2:28 pm #283514We could play three up front but it wouldn’t improve his first touch.

March 31, 2024 at 8:27 pm #283523If players can’t or will not pass the ball correctly then I question the manager and coaches. If they are not bothered then you do not select them.

Elliot would net at this level, easily. Not too long ago he scored 5 in 7 for Gateshead so he’s more than capable, but has played the majority of his career up alongside a striker partner.
Don’t get me wrong he was flaws as players do down at this level, but he’s never been used correctly.

I have some sympathy for this view but from what I’ve seen of him his movement and touch are simply terrible. He doesn’t make runs for teammates in my opinion – he can clearly finish but it’s getting into the right position and making himself available which are his shortcomings.
