It is Poppy time again, which provides much needed money for one of Britains best causes.
I made my trip today to GP and bought my 2020 Scunthorpe Utd / poppy badge, it really looks good, and am very proud to wear it, so the club shop had a box full of these lovely badges, so if you are in Scunny on a Wenesday, please pop into the club and get yourself one, thanks guys.
Agree we should put our hands in our pockets, but I’m not sure that they should be described as “lovely” and “looks really good”.
Poppy badges & brooches in various guises have become more like a fashion accessory of late. The direct opposite of what they were first designed for – to remember the futility and suffering of a whole generation. The old paper poppy was unassuming and fragile like life itself.
However, anything that gets folk to contribute to the appeal has to be a good thing. Just don’t wear it all year like some people I know!
Yes Northumbiron you are correct in what you are saying, but these badges do look really good, an ame as you say, it puts a few quid into a very good caurse. These have 2020 on them, so the people will not be able to wear them next year ha ha!, it would be a big shame if the club were left with half a box of them left.
I’d like a reflective pin badge on Terry Barwick to finish off my shrine but not been able to locate one !
The full production run sold out in minutes WG, his other two fans bought one each and that was it.
