Well in the National league final it will have 2 centre backs who both started their league careers at Scunthorpe United.
Callum Howe – Solihull Moors and Luke Waterfall – Grimsby T. FC will face each other to get into the football league.
Usual thing cannot wait for them to mature but in the early reserve games they looked promising, just needed time.
Good luck to the winner.
As we were in the EFL the club would surely have received plenty of criticism for hanging on to players that ultimately proved to be NL standard.
Both started their careers at Scunthorpe? Waterfall played for about 5 different clubs before arriving, but don’t let that get in the way of your narrative.
We had the best centre back pairing in League 2 whilst they were here in Mirfin and Canavan, so it isn’t hard to see why they didn’t get much action.
Weren’t we in league one when they were about and they’ve proven to be decent national league players…
Waterfall has his critics on the fishy forum and IMO he was no great shakes when he played for us but players change overtime, I suspect National League is his level, dropped a lot of bollocks in league two according to some fishy followers. McAtee different altogether, has the tools to become a really good EFL player again IMO.
Phew! Had me worried for a moment.
Thought the thread was about our first signings of the closed season.
Definitely don’t need any more young defenders.
Howe is now 28 years old.
Waterfall is 32 years old this year.

I said league careers ! I did not say non-league. We could have developed for the future. Players do get injured and look at where we are now as we have systematically got rid of so many.
I actually believe our decline started with getting rid of Andrew Boyce – not the fanciest I will agree but someone who would give blood for the shirt. Remember when both Slocombe & Severn got broken arms ? Who grabbed the shirt because others walked away from the keepers shirt – Mr Boyce.
