Today, it is estimated that the global steel industry used about 2 billion tonnes of iron ore, 1 billion tonnes of metallurgical coal and 575 million tonnes of recycled steel to produce about 1.7 billion tonnes of crude steel in addition to billions of litres of water.
These facts need to be taken into consideration. The balance between environmental matters and the concerns expressed by Bucksiron is not straightforward, so I am holding my fire just now before deciding to sign or not. Perhaps increased efficiency in recycling scrap could persuade me not to sign, on the other hand……..
