The excess deaths is not due to lockdown, primarily. People aren’t contracting respiratory illness through lockdown risks to mental health and domestic violence risk, and needing hospital treatment to give them oxygen because of lockdown and its associated ills. Such ills exist, but we need to be accurate here. It’s not a perfect solution either way, but in terms of death toll the problem is with coronavirus, not other related ills to lockdown.
Granted, accusing Tory MPs of wanting to kill the population is crass, but I don’t think we should play down anything. It’s not a cold, it’s not the flu and has greater potential to overwhelm the NHS. Mental health and domestic violence doesn’t. This isn’t to do down the risks here, but I repeat, this isn’t as grave an issue with death toll.
