BRI, the point I was making isn’t that the piece was by a left wing journalist but that Monbiot is very extreme in his views in exactly the same way that Gurnelista was claiming about Forbes’ editor in another thread.
You’re a reasonable guy and will understand that you can’t have it both ways. That’s what I mean about having a sensible debate on here. We’re all guilty of these things from time to time, of course, but Gurnelista takes it to another level. The guy just cannot accept any views that don’t fit his agenda.
As for lockdown a lot of people on here are failing to understand the harm this is doing to the nation’s mental health, although based on comments from some they might have no understanding of what this actually means or maybe they just don’t care; and before anyone comes back at me on that it saddens me enormously to say that the comments made on here by some do nothing to suggest otherwise.
Fair, regarding not having it both ways. I just take a bit of disagreement over the topic of this thread being a joke. Yes, some may have blind spots, but with regards to anti-vaxxer rhetoric, the points have been salient on the whole.
Of course the lockdown will have effect on mental health, but there are no easy answers. This is not an argument against lockdown, because lifting it will have clear detrimental effects on society elsewhere. Lockdowns reduce case rates, which reduce hospitalisations, which reduces death and help with other ailments requiring hospital treatment. It’s not so black and white. I say this as someone who also suffers with my mental health, so I don’t think I am disregarding anyone with it, because it is something which needs to be treated better.
