Scunthorpe boss Michael Nelson admitted that loan star Rob Apter is likely to miss the New Year’s Day clash at Chesterfield through injury, before he returns to Blackpool following the expiry of his loan.
Apter, who has been strongly linked with a January switch to League Two side Crewe, limped off during the Iron’s 2-1 defeat to Chesterfield on Boxing Day and has returned to Blackpool to be assessed by the Seasiders’ medical team.
Nelson told BBC Radio Humberside: “He went back to Blackpool to see their physio and he is getting a scan this morning, so we are waiting on the results from that coming back.
“It’s not looking promising for this weekend which would be Rob’s loan up. He was available for this upcoming game, which is why in my post match interview I said I was planning to have him.
“Our physio is going to speak to their physio this afternoon, hopefully have the results of the scan and plan accordingly from there.
“We would like to extend his loan if we could, but as of yet we don’t know what the future holds.”
Apter scored four League goals during his stay at Glanford Park and the Iron gaffer admitted he was expecting Blackpool to loan him out to a team higher up the football pyramid in January.
“He’s done well at times. He’s been a real match winner on the odd occassion in terms of the goals he has come up with and the chances he has created.
“He would be a miss but it would provide an opportunity for another player in the building to go and fill that spot and be that spark that we need.”
